hi everyone. i am a first time traveler to South Africa. i am still contemplating on the city to settle for. i'm thinking Capetown, Johannesburg or Durban. any advice on the city i should settle for? i work remotely and i am more of an introvert but i like living in a bubbling and busy city with a good nightlife.
What kind of visa did you obtain?

Cos you're talking about settling.
Does your Nationality or your port permit you to settle down in SA?
Whether you carry a British port or Canadian port, the world you said settle down and rent, shows you want to stay for long.
Question is do you have a valid authorization that will permit you to do that legally without violating the law?

apparently my port has just 3 months visa free so it's more like testing the waters for this first time even though i have plans of staying longer and i already made enquiries about how i will do that when i get there.

alright thanks man. any specific middle class area i can settle down in Capetown? most of the places i am seeing online, the rent is a bit high. my budget is around 5-6k p/m for 1 bedroom flat.
What visa do you hold, you best bet is Airbnb as you can’t get a lease with a short stay.
That amount may get a bedroom flat in northern suburbs eg bellville Parow etc . However if you looking towards places closer to the ocean like century city you need a bigger budgets. The experience will be worthwhile than Durban or JHB

That's what I was trying to advise on.
safety, legality and how Nigerians may be portrayed if this goes south. I hope and wish you the best, but think about all options very well.
We've all got one life to live and we've no maximise, but in maximizing, just consider your options correctly, if SA would be worth it in the long run.
Good luck

Try Homii apartments on commercial street in t CBD.
Furnished apartment with central hubs, right in the CBD, close to nice places like V & A waterfront (15-25 mins walk) and you can get a room for between 6-11k depending on size or co-sharing.
You also don't need to commit for long term or pay any deposits, you pay monthly.

In Pretoria, Hatfield, Francis Baard , all those areas, you will get something for that range. These are also known safe areas, so be guided ok.

Hello, everyone. I intend to begin a Masters program in South Africa in the first week of January 2025. I applied for a student visa through VFS on October 25th, however, it was declined ten (10) days later due to a medical aid coverage issue. I re-applied on November 14th with the correct documents, and I am yet to receive any decision.
I am quite anxious and concerned 😰. Please what can I do about this issue?
Any update?

Good morning all,
I would like some clarity. Can I relocate to South Africa with my family for my master's program? Additionally, will I be able to work while studying?

TESTIMONY ALERT !!! TESTIMONY ALERT!!! TESTIMONY ALERT!!!
I applied for a visit visa to visit Cape Town on the 10th of December 2024 after using about 3 months to prepare for the submission and I submitted everything i ought to have submitted including my previous visa to South Africa and other countries. On the 19th of December 2024, I received my port with a visa refusal note and the ground of refusal was solely that the date on my hotel reservation does not tally with the date of my flight reservation, which is obviously not true.
I immediately wrote a written representation explaining clearly that the Visa Officer who assessed my application was hasty in making the decision and has erroneously refused my application and I re-attached my relevant documents. I personally went to the VFS office to submit the written representation and on getting there, the VFS staff present all itted that the decision was wrong but still persuaded me to re-apply and attach the refusal note rather pursuing my appeal as they had never seen a situation where an appeal was successful but i was adamant in pursuing the appeal. When the Staff saw that i was insistent on proceeding with the appeal, they collected the written representation and ing documents from me without any form of acknowledgment. I did not hear from them for a short while but one mind kept telling me that it is possible that the VFS staff would just throw my documents somewhere so i went online to get the email address of DHA.
On the 27th of December 2024, I sent the DHA an email firstly introducing myself and thereafter expressing my discontentment with the decision and urging them to review it. I initially did not get a response to the email but after a short while, the CG sent me an email and copied another Senior Consular Officer in the email directing him to look into my concerns.
It was quiet for about 2 weeks until the 15th of January, 2025 when i decided to do a follow up via email. There was no response to the email but after about 30minutes, I received a call from VFS requesting that i submit my port. Shortly afterwards the CG responded saying I should confirm if my query has been resolved and I replied giving him the update.
On the 17th of January 2025, I went to VFS to submit my port and on getting there, none of them believed me as they had never seen such happen before. I had to show them the call i received and my mail communication with the CG before I submitted my port.
I was called yesterday to come and pick up my port and upon getting there today, to the Glory of God, my visa was quietly sitting in my port. The person who gives port out also did not believe it when i told her the story and she had to refer me to her superior.
When I met the superior, he asked for my tracking ID and all and i told him i don't have any as my case is different, immediately after saying this, he called my surname and asked if i was the one who appealed and I said yes. He reiterated that he had never seen such happen.
One sweet thing about it is that it is the same signature who refused my application that signed on my visa.
I took my time to share this here to encourage someone never to give up, i recall sometime last year when some guys were asking about the success of the written representation and the advice given to them was to go and reapply just like i was advised.
I wish all the people awaiting decisions , good luck.
Cheers!

Getting a lease agreement or RES ission is the best. If you don’t have that talk to the school international office if they can issue you a letter, I hope you’re going for postgrad. If that don’t work if you have anyone close to the school they can give you their lease agreement +ID and with a letter that you will be staying at their residence for 3 months (pending time you sort yourself).

The favour you'll do for others is to share the email addresses here.
Secondly, it's obvious that VFS are clueless and would not have sent your appeal outside of Lagos
