Funniest thing is that the middle belt participated in the pogroms with much zeal and the region witnessed the highest volunteers to the federal forces. Awolowo tried getting the middle belt to leave the north but they much wanted to be under northern Nigeria. The balkanization of each three regions at independence was the main agenda by each separate region. The Sarduna teamed up with Zik to ensure the of western Region was duly balkanized. The Yorubas did not oppose this move and the process to create Midwestern region sailed peacefully in the Yoruba dominated Regional House in Ibadan. Awolowo then ed the agitation for both a separate region for the NE and also MB people but their response was lukewarm. In the old eastern region agitation for COR region was the loudest by the so-called minorities as far back as 1951 when eastern region was created. The regional house in Enugu that was dominated by the ibos did not borrow a leaf from the Yoruba dominated house in Ibadan and suppressed all moves by minority reps to call for a referendum to leave the old Eastern region. It's at this time that the Sarduna coined the phrase "one north" which was meant to see northern Nigeria as sacrosanct and indivisble. The minorities of the eastern region found a loophole in getting a referendum to leave Eastern Nigeria by approaching the federal house. They got the of both the Sarduna and Akintola to their bid alongside MPs from the newly created Midwestern region. It's at this point that it dawned to Zik that the old eastern region will be reduced to its current SE size and makeup that they then conspired to halt the federal parliament convening from a Christmas break to look into and a motion calling for a referendum for the creation of the Calabar-Ogoja-Rivers region. Their officers in the military were then deployed to thwart the house from convening but to end regionalism all together. This is the reason for Jan 15 coup and it had nothing to do with the political crisis in the western region or freeing Awo . 1 Like |

helinues:Oga, good luck as continue to dwell in the past. The good aspects of the whole thing is that Chukwuma 'Kaduna' Nzeogwu is from Delta State, in Niger Delta Region. This Region has been feeding Nigeria since 1960 till date. Ideally since you still want to cling to the past, you should have as well stop eating fat from the resources of that region & face front. But you want to continue to eat fat of their resources but still claiming of some past bitterness & some funny sense of entitlement.. Oga e make sense to you? 1 Like |

KEVIND: You don't know how evil he, his sponsors, and his cohorts are. Their pursuit is to see the north at war with the southeast. They want to see the southsouth at war with the southeast too. The current Ohanaeze presidency drove a huge spear through their hearts. They are exploring all other options now to ensure that the hatred against the Igboman continues. 3 Likes |

KEVIND: Nah wah. Radio Biafra and several Ibo authors have been pushing a revisionist history since the end of the war that has made the average Ibo hate his fellow Nigerian. You can not now say we should forget history when you have been twisting it to instil hatred amongst your people on other Nigerians. The whole Biafran agitation won't be happening today of the truth was not set straight . But since Gowon wanted to sacrifice justice and truth for your reintegration, he ensured that those who were in the know never documented or spoke of what truly transpired. I will let you know that if the atrocities committed by your Biafran soldiers and civilians alike on the Midwest and minorities trapped in Biafra, no one would have accommodated you in their midst after the war ended. Today, the greatest tragedy of that war was the sufferings and genocide committed on the minority people by mostly the Biafran occupiers . 2 Likes |

Lagos-Ibadan express media keeps talking about only the Jan 1966 coup and its plotters. There were many more coups. I’ll try to name them. 1. Jan 1966 2. July 1966 (counter coup) 3. July 1975 4. February 1976 (failed coup) 5. December 1983 6. August 1985 7. April 1990 (failed coup) 8. August 1993 Of all these coups, only the Jan 1966 coup was carried out by Ibo officers, (not only ibo officers were involved). This same coup was foiled by another Ibo officer. All other coups and attempts were carried out by majorly non- Ibo people. No other Ibo man had ruled as military or civilian leader since the first military coup in Nigeria. Let’s assume the leader (Aguiyi Ironsi) in 1966 Jan coup made some government decisions that were not good, why was it difficult for successive governments (military and civilian) to return to what it was before the Jan 1966 coup. That government barely lasted 6 months before it was taken down by another coup. All Nigerian leaders past and present failed. If the leaders were doing so good for the people, the first coup wouldn’t have happened. There’s always been injustice in Nigeria and that’s the major problem we’ve always had. 1 Like |
