A former Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Mr. John Mayaki, has reaffirmed his unflinching for Governor Monday Okpebholo, saying, “no amount of scheming, opposition, or unfounded accusations will deter me”.

He said he has written opinion articles, authored news stories and written feature analysis on Edo state politics, the governor and the government and have never claimed to have been doing so on behalf of the governor.

Mayaki was responding to a statement on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Mr. Fred Itua, distancing the governor from Mayaki where he informed the public that Mayaki does not speak for Okpebholo.

Reacting, however, Mayaki said: “All my publications are done with my name on them, as either a farmer, a former S or any other title as I wish to bear and not as a government official”.

He added: “I quite understand the desperation fueling the gang-up from the crying Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who suffered a resounding defeat at the hands of Senator Monday Okpebholo. Their inability to accept the will of the people is understandable just as I also understand that when you beat a child, you cannot stop him or her from crying. The PDP can cry from now till eternity, but let me make one thing clear, there is no mandate for them to recover. None.

“As for those running from pillar to post, trembling at my for the governor, thinking I have come to take food off their plates, you have missed the point entirely. My allegiance is rooted in a higher purpose and that is to see Edo state flourish under Governor Monday Okpebholo’s leadership – not a personal gain. I do not for rewards; I for progress.

“And to those with a sense of entitlement to government appointments, here is my advice; disabuse yourselves of such delusions. Leadership is not an all-comer affairs, and not everyone will be appointed into government just as am not expecting any. Fighting against me or attempting to dissuade my won’t secure you a spot. Governance is about service, not handouts.

“My commitment to Edo state saw me in the trenches for the last 8 years checkmating Governor Obaseki to ensure he does the right thing. It’s all about patriotism, not politics. Elections have come and gone, and it’s time for governance. Whether or not I cast my vote for the governor, my priority is to contribute to the growth of my state and add value to its leadership. What I stand for is simple: what can I do for Edo, not what can Edo do for me.

“Therefore, no amount of petty scheming or baseless attacks can sway me. My resolve is unshakable, my focus is also unyielding, and my dedication to Governor Monday Okpebholo’s leadership remains absolute. Let the PDP and their enablers brace themselves for more disappointment because nothing, absolutely nothing, will stop me”, Mayaki declared.

A friend told me that the reason why some of them behave the way Mayaki is currently behaving is because, while in government, they had acquired 'a taste for greed/unreal lifestyle' (free money, a retinue of aides, access to contractors who pay bribes, etc, etc), which they cannot maintain when they are out of office!

The simple advice for any professional who got appointed to any office in government is to ensure that their "first address" (their initial professional calling) remains intact and also refuse to acquire any 'taste for greed'!

Exactly 💯. I can't be given such an appointment and I will start ass leaking immediately my tenure is over. Never!! I will use the appointment through the governor and other prominent figures to set a life outside office. Do alot of investment and not building mansions and buying fancy cars which u might end up selling after sapa sets in. As a journalist, he could have even opened his own radio or television station wit the help of the governor and invest in the oil sector. But all they know is to carry oloshos, buy them cars, travel abroad for vacation and buying houses they don't need. Even If u want to go into real estate, u can do it in Abuja or Lagos where it is lucrative.
To round it all, Mayaki is shameless.

This man is from my town, he called the governor a motor boy during campaigns and tried all possible means to degrade him. He now want to come from back door to get close. Am ashamed of him honestly. We are not know for this, Oshiomole made him for who he is now but still went to Asue. I don't say he must Oshiomole's candidate but why the u turn. He also called the governor semi illiterate. Why the sudden show of love. This is among the reasons when he tried to contest for house of assembly then, we didn't throw . Someone that ran from Edo state and abandoned his house to Abuja because of Obaseki during 2020 campaigns.
