Just because democracy works in America doesn't mean it'll work in Africa, we are different people. I think it's a little bit presumptuous to say democracy is the our safest bet. It is quite delusional if we keep hoping it's definitely gonna work out at some point in time.

You just made my point, what we have here is not democracy and if we are not practicing democracy, perhaps it's time to address that and call it exactly what it is. It doesn't have to be a dictatorship, the problem was there since we gained independence. The current system we call democracy in Africa is way too expensive and inefficient, it's not sustainable in the long run without raising dissidents or another civil war and it'll definitely lead to chaos or anarchy if we don't address that.

Africans are free independent people, saying the current system is our safest bet is synonymous to saying we can't think for ourselves. The Chinese aren't practicing democracy and they're doing better, most of the gulf countries aren't practicing democracy either and they have good system.

Finally, we should be allowed to choose our path and our system of government, not because people in the west compel us to. It's time to review, explore or better still create ( we have the brains ) a system more suitable to our people as Africans.

But you didn't address something.
What makes us so sure that the new system we create is gonna work if we keep doing the wrong things. And bear in mind that democracy was not our first and only system, we have practised monarchical system before. And if we go back on history, that same monarchical system was full of social segregation that placed a huge wide gap in of social class between the rulers and the rules which leaves much to be desired if such a system was still in practice today.

And in China.. you said China is doing well but you didn't address the fact that China is seriously seriously suppressing dissident voices (all these are due to the world becoming smaller and smaller as a result of the world becoming a global village). Not that the Chinese system is wrong but all these things will only work without problems if the country is to be secluded from other parts of the world which is not practicable.
And , this Chinese system came about as a result of a civil war orchestrated by Chairman Mao Zedong. The system continues to work because another uprising which will challenge the Mao Zedong philosophy is seriously suppressed not because it is "actually working" or satisfies the majority.

And lastly, between USA and China, which system of government is more likely to experience an uprising which can lead to a civil war. The answer is clear to me and you. Instability is the last thing we want in Africa.
