Aaahhhh that is bad. Do you mind sharing with us what happened. Also, had such experience not knowing that where I bought my first farm land was a flood plain. The water was as high as 7 feets which covered the young coconuts for 2 months. Our savings grace that we did not totally lose all was that we, applied Salts before the rains started coming. But a lot of damages was done by the year 2021 floods.

@Umuna,
You deserve and award for your great contributions to human development bro. This thread is richer than a year course in the university, may the Lord bless you richly.

I acquired my farmland in june 2022 but i do not want to start planting as development is still going on on the land (perimeter fencing). Hopefully, i will be ready to plant my coconut by may.
I plan to space each tree 5meters apart (16ft), hope that is not too much for hybrid variety.

Also, would you advise that i mix the seedlings? Maybe 200 hybrid and 100 dwarf (The land is about 7 acres so i have space to play with). But the total population planned is 300.

I will sure update this thread with the progress once activities take off.

Also, have you ever come across a plantain variety that fruits 2 bunches on the same tree? I am looking for the sucker of such plantain like a lost wife. I will appreciate a direction to where i can get them to buy.

My elder brother has this variety in his compound, maybe about 20 stands or so. The beauty of it is that, each bunch usually have about 50 to 55 big fingers, i have talked to them at IITA but they don't seem to know the variety.

If i see someone who can mass produce the suckers from the ones my bro has, i won't mind paying the person.

Dear holyboy009,

Happy new year and thanks for your prayers. We are glad you located this thread. 5 metres spacing is okay and you can mix both hybrid and the dwarf varieties into your farm. I promise you, it will be an interesting journey. Least I forget, you can also plant bananas and plantain sparingly in your land. It will save the cost of clearing and maintaining the farm. Cheers man and welcome to the club.

Saw this hybrid in a neighbours compound. According to him, it took 3 and half years before it started fruiting.

God bless you for the timely response bro,
Yes plantain will be in between the coconut trees, that's the reason for my second comment up there.

I will surely need your help once planting is a about to start. I won't hesitate to reach out bro.

Yes I do have them, but not in large quantities. I get you 30 suckers whenever you are ready. Also during fruiting at first, they might produce only one bunch, but subsequently, it will start producing double because by then, more suckers are at the mother base.

Last year we ordered and received some cavandish Bananas from someone on this platform around April 2024. At first we had several challenges as regards the order, we planted late April 2024, surprisingly one of the bananas is carrying fruit. They have produced so many suckers that we intend spreading this farming season/year.

I also planted Cavendish Bananas last year around April. They are growing well. They are yet to bear fruit though. How long does it take for Cavendish Bananas to bear fruit? Thanks.

Thanks for your bro,
I leave around iyana ipaja, Lagos. I can get up to 30 suckers of my brother's species. Also, Umuna also mention that he could get me another 30pcs when I'm ready for planting.

I would like us to talk better on this cos i will be ready for planting between April and May, God's willing. Which part of ogun state are you?

I am in Idiroko Side. If you dont mind, you can drop your email address so i can shoot you a mail. We can connect from there. If you want to start planting by April, then you should start the multiplication now, because it takes like two months before you will need to start transplanting.

Oga, sit down and learn how to multiply the ones your brother have. You gat everything you need. Your brother's suckers are enough to fill 100 hectares in a short period of time. And it is extremely cheap to produce. Do this thing yourself.

Here is the truth: if you cannot produce these suckers yourself since you have plants you can use, you cannot make a plantain or banana business prosperous. If you can learn it and master it, the sky is just the beginning for you.

So, I encourage you that you should learn it by yourself. You can do it.

The only issue is that you should not become a suckers-seller and lose sight of your main project, which is banana/plantain production. The moment you start selling suckers, you are gone. Sure, contracts can come which is OK....like someone sees your farm and insists you sell him suckers. That's fine. But you start making ads, start soliciting around...you have lost it. And this is how everyone I taught mass reproduction turned to, except a guy and a wealthy woman. This woman is so wealthy that ...let's leave story. She had been wealthy before she learned it, and the knowledge has helped her to maintain her farm. Till date, she sends me free plantains, pineapple, banana, etc. Infact, what I have eaten are more than the amount I could have collected from her...but then, I have given her much more. She is just a woman with a thankful heart who knows how to make more wealth. When I give out these fruits because my family alone cannot finish them, people think I have a pineapple/banana/plantain farm....but they aren't my focus. Lol.

I want many people to be succesful.... You will do well when you learn skills instead of using useless consultants here.

But don't get me wrong, there are still good consultants here. I have seen some guys doing wonderful things. If you want to know good consultants, the fellows will not rush to your farm. Why? They are always very busy. You may have to push before you get hold of them. And if you don't them again, they don't care. cheesy

From my tone, do I sound like someone who gives a damn? Someone asked me...why do I give free information? The information I give people, many repackage them into what they sell today. I don't care because such people always fail. Some even copy my content around the Internet and sell. Lol. The moment you decide to copy what is free and repackage them to sell....na curses you dey put on your head. The person will always be below of the person he copied. That's the truth. It is a spiritual law.

Finally, the very message before this one looks good. I don't always say go to this person or that person. Not sure if the person knows about mass production of suckers but what I know is that he has the heart of a farmer. Do you know the meaning of having the heart of a farmer? Lol. See, if you can approach him to teach you (if he can do it), he may not even collect a dime from you if he has the time. Well...not sure....but even if he asks for a small change, give him. If he doesn't ask, you better be like 0.1% of that wealthy woman to him because, you will get more. 0.1% of the woman is huge ooo. The woman sef dey gain seriously till date. One day, I just met landed on her farm unannounced and I flew a drone round her farm in the presence of her workers. Made recommendations and "piam", she don order everything cos na me still taught her importation from US and China. Lol. Sharply, she did everything when she heard I came to her place. She laughed that day eh...that she will always have it at the back of her mind that good things will come from me anytime. Lol.

Bros...take this thing serious. Go and learn it. Don't rush it. And don't use the skill to become a consultant. You will thank God for this message in 2 years from today.

Blessing.

Well I don't know any magic to make coconut seeds sprout quickly, but all I can say is, let the coconut mature well and dried from the tree, put it/them in a damp place and water regularly. Within 2-3 months you will get your results.

Thanks for the valuable suggestions boss,
I am not actually indisposed to learning the mass production techniques, i just feel like i have a lot on my plate right now and i don't have to do everything by myself.

I will give your suggestion a greater consideration and i hope to update with whatever progress i make.

God bless!

Do you think many of us don't want to outsource also so we can do other things? Don't worry....you will understand later. My lips are sealed henceforth. If you cannot produce your suckers that you can put right under your nose, I wonder how you can manage a farm. You wan outsource it also. grin

Oga, if you cannot monitor any agricultural small scale farm from the beginning to the end, and be present everytime, just forget it. Failure will definitely occur. Only a lage farm with real structure where you have staff in different departments and you pay each head of department N500k to around N3million as monthly salary is when you can stay away from the farm. But a small farm like what you want to do...you have failed before starting.

The truth is bitter.

Good luck!
