Northerners Have No Moral Right To Reject Tinubu In 2027 – Shehu Sani (12982 Views)

The senator who represented Kaduna Central at the National Assembly, from 2015 to 2019, Shehu Sani, has said northerners have no moral right to vote out President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come the 2027 general elections over the controversial tax reform bills.

Sani, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and human rights activist, said northerners opposing Tinubu’s tax reform bills had failed to criticise and hold to , the istration of former President Muhammadu Buhari which

Daily Trust reports that President Tinubu transmitted four tax reform bills to the National Assembly last year but the bills ignited serious controversies with critical stakeholders from the North, including governors, elders, traditional rulers, civil society organisations (CSO), calling for their withdrawal.

Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, was quoted as saying, “The current tax reform is not only hasty but unfair in its design. It risks concentrating revenue streams at the centre while depriving states like Bauchi of the funds needed to cater to our people. If this continues, we will have no choice but to show our true colours.”

But Shehu Sani, in an interview with the Sun yesterday, asked the North to reorganise itself and see how the northerners who are in Tinubu’s government could contribute to the region’s development.

He said Buhari appointed northerners into offices but they did not serve the interests of the North, adding that northerners refused to voice out under the istration of Buhari despite its “many failures.”

He said, “Let us tell ourselves the home truth. When our own was in power for 96 months, what did he do? For all the failures, people kept quiet. They refused to hold him to . They refused to criticise him. They refused to say we voted for you and you failed.

“For eight years, he couldn’t construct any major road to Northern Nigeria. He spent eight years, yet he couldn’t activate the Mambila power plant. He spent eight years; he couldn’t revive or dredge the River Niger.”

The former lawmaker said “He spent eight years; he couldn’t dualise the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano express route. He spent eight years; he couldn’t dualise the Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos express route. He spent billions of naira in the name of agriculture for which there is nothing to show.

“He appointed northerners into offices and they have not served the interests of the North. So, if you cannot hold your son to , if you kept quiet, if you remained silent, if you folded your arms during Buhari’s istration, what conscience do you have now to threaten someone else with re-election?”

However, in November last year, the Secretary-General of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Murtala Aliyu, rejected the claims in some quarters that it criticised President Tinubu’s istration because the president is a southerner.

He insisted that it criticised the present istration with the same vigour it applied in its criticism of the istration of former President Buhari.

Sani Shehu can say the North lost the right to criticize Tinubu and not the right to reject him? Rejecting him should be based on performance but their hypocrisy during Buhari's istration is a dent to their criticism.

What is the percentage of the Northerns who voted for Tinubu in the first place? 35 to 40% maximum.

It's wrong to use the term Northerners as if there is a consensus in the first place. Tinubu won 7 Nothern States out of 19.

This sheu sanni is still pained by how buhari deceived him and made him lost his senatorial seat
So he is saying since buhari was allowed to play kalokalo with our lives for 8 years ,we should allow Tinubu double down on that, that is wapped logic,he is free to dash his life to Tinubu to do whatever he likes with it, but we reserve the right to say enough is enough
He is playing the ethnic card for selfish reasons
If he is patriotic he should be on the side of good governance, irrespective of the tribe

That's the hypocritical part Sani was talking about.

If Buhari didn't do much and got reelected, why should someone who has done more better within 2 years ( compared to first Buhari 2 years) be denied reelection?

Lol but to think of it, the man is 100% right. Jubril was a monument of failure for straight 8 good years. But never the less of his calamitous failures, naira still worth something. But you see as the sons, daughters, brothers and sisters to the family of the owners of Lagos are all folding their arms and looking just like the north did during jubril's time, that's to let you know their brother/Messiah is already a failure.

You can embezzle, but just give me good governance and development, it's not too much to ask for.

Our government knows what is right to do, but they don't care because they have already seen the citizens as cowards that they are.

Jubril has already told them "Nigerians are to difficult to control, it's better to control my sheep's and cow's than Nigerians". Basically telling Nigerians that sheep's and cow's are top priority in the country, your life don't matter.

Whether they criticized Buhari or not is inconsequential. Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a fake ant and must vacate the seat come 2027. He's a calamity to Nigeria.

I like the way this Sani guy criticized the north and called them out for what they truly are; they are all hypocrites!. They never castigated sir bubu but they’re now hell-bent on making T-pain suffer for the transgression of Sir Bubu.
It’s so unfair…

What concerns Northerners with moral right. Do they even know the meaning of moral in the face of poverty and hunger. All these cash and carry politicians that always licker the ass of president just for crumbs won't fail to amaze me. Even as a South westerner, I reject Tinubu in totality. Is defeat will be very loud. The man has no common sense at all. Let him continue with his reforms while he and his cabinet are apportioning substantial part of our common budget for themselves.

Northerners are not rejecting Tinubu in person or his physical outlook. They're rejecting his economic policies which is in-stimulus and have negative adversely effects on the people especially the poor ones from the zone.

Let him address issue of insecurity currently ravaging different dynasties in the zone.
