A devastating ethnic crisis has broken out in Gululu village, Jahun and Miga local government areas of Jigawa State, leaving at least 11 people dead and 31 houses burnt to ashes.

The incident, which occurred last Friday, has sparked tension in the community and raised concerns about the fragile peace in the region

According to eyewitnesses, the violence erupted after a fight between Hausa and Fulani communities, resulting in the senseless killing of innocent people, including children. Suleiman Abubakar Jahun, a Fulani elder, lost five of his children in the attack and is now left to care for his 18 grandchildren.

I was at home when people informed me of a fight between Hausa and Fulani communities

“I was at home when people informed me of a fight between Hausa and Fulani communities. Upon arriving at the scene, I witnessed rampant killings, which were senseless and devastating,” Abubakar said, appealing to the government to provide assistance to the affected families.

Another victim, Amadu Garba Jahun, who lost his child, called for peace and justice, saying that the community does not seek revenge but wants the authorities to bring the perpetrators to book. “We’re not seeking revenge or wanting to take the law into our own hands. We just want the authorities to do their job and bring us justice,” Garba said.

The Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has donated 25 bags of rice and N500,000 to the affected families, while also distributing five bags of rice and N100,000 to those who lost children. Dr. Haruna Mairiga, Chairman of SEMA, attributed the clash to theft by unknown individuals, which escalated into violence.

The incident has raised concerns about the ongoing ethnic tensions in the region and the need for urgent intervention to prevent further violence

The local government chairmen of Jahun and Miga have appealed for calm and assured that they are working with the state government and security agencies to restore peace and security in the area. The state’s commissioner of police, AT. Abdullahi, said that the government has set up a committee to manage farmer-herder conflict across the state and that the police command is working to arrest and bring to book all violators.

The incident has raised concerns about the ongoing ethnic tensions in the region and the need for urgent intervention to prevent further violence. The government and security agencies have been called upon to take immediate action to address the root causes of the conflict and ensure that justice is served to the affected families.

The victims of these heinous acts are mostly the innocent ones. All round the country, there is a tense ethnic crisis ravaging the unity that was never there. There have been calls for succession but does that resolve the issue?
Addressing this issue requires a multifaceted approach of the root cause and stakeholders' interest leading to the cause. We can't hide it anymore that to live in love and harmony is almost an irony. Everyone is suspicious of the other. As aforementioned, this will require Key steps which will include addressing root causes like land disputes and economic inequality, enforcing impartial justice, promoting peace education, etc…
We can only hope for a positive outcome as there are no guarantees to these suggestions.

May the victims continue to rest in peace🙏

The Hausawa are beginning to remove themselves from the Hausa Fulani yoke.
Gone are the days Fulani will ride astride Hausa and dictate how they are governed..
I see more of such clashes in the future..
The Time of the Fulani is over..
Hausawa will regain their land and kingdoms in quick succession.

I think the Hausas are in trouble more than any ethnic group in this country. The fulani will not stop until they no longer exist. That is exactly how viruses operate grin grin grin grin grin

Most of the politicians up north that I know are Fulani. E.g, El-Rufai, Kwankwaso, Atiku, Buhari, Tambuwal, etc. Who are the Hausa politicians in the north?

BTW:

I pray they settle their dispute amicably.

Reminder:

Tinubu has less than 870 days to handover power to the next person!
