The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has confirmed the arrest of a teacher following a viral video showing the suspect allegedly physically abusing a three-year-old boy at a school in Ikorodu.

The announcement was made in a statement shared on social media on Wednesday.

The video, shared by Oyindamola, who identifies as #dammiedammie35, captured a female teacher slapping the child’s face.

The video was captioned, "Footage from Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu, a teacher named Stella Nwadigo was witnessed mistreating and physically abusing a 3-year-old boy, Abayomi Micheal. The footage has raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of our little ones in school."

Reacting to the incident, the Lagos DSVA issued a statement expressing gratitude to those who brought the video to their attention.

The statement reads, "We appreciate everyone who brought the disturbing incident of a teacher who was recorded physically abusing a 3-year-old boy to our attention.

"We are pleased to inform the public that the teacher in question has been arrested by Owutu FSU, and an investigation has commenced in earnest.

The agency reiterated the state government’s commitment to protecting children, emphasizing that schools must be safe and nurturing spaces.

The statement added, "Indeed, institutions of learning should be safe, warm, and protective environments for all children in their care. The State Government remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of every child by enforcing strict regulations, holding offenders able, and working with stakeholders to promote a zero-tolerance policy for abuse in any form.

"If you have any additional information about this case or similar incidents, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via our toll-free hotline: 08000 333 333 or send a direct message on our social media platforms."

I believe this is a private school. The person recording this video should have intervened by confronting the teacher and reporting to the head mistress. If nothing is done, then she can report to lagos state government. But then again for those of us that went to military secondary school. This one na moi moi.

That was high handed of her no doubt and it's unacceptable. She remained calm and collected all through as she was assisting the pupil with his work which shows that it wasn't done with a malicious intent.
If you allow tribal prejudice to becloud your reasoning and you go on the vengeful mission, you can create a problem where there's non.

Are you for real? If that was your own child would tribe or intent matter more to you than the welfare of your child who's being battered black and blue?

If that were you being slapped would you claim you are being unmaliciously assisted?

Thank God the video is there and everyone can see what exactly happened. Yes, she was heavy handed which was very wrong. But seeing that it was during a one on one teaching session which probably was the teacher going extra mile to help him get his work right, I as his parent won't be too mad at her. He didn't sustain any injury nor was he crying as to show excessive pain. This shows that there was a level of restraint from her although her actions are unacceptable.
There was no shouting, insults or cursing from the teacher. This shows she was still collected and in control of the situation despite not getting the expected result from the kid. She's at fault though and more should be demanded from her but it shouldn't be an overkill.

Yujin, this is not how a good teacher helps your child learn. And claiming a child who's face you can not even see is not injured or crying is disingenuous. You know very well that if you receive just one of the slaps that child received there'd certainly be tears in your eyes, how much less or more a child of that age!

Please, if you want one on one tutoring for you child, get a kind and considerate person who will not emotionally damage your child for life. The person in that video should not be teaching at all.

Why is physical child abuse common among many women of SE extraction? For real, it needs to be addressed. Whenever I see or hear a woman physically abused a child, it is often an SE woman. This has nothing to do with tribalism, it is a common occurrence.

It's easy to judge another person when you're not in their shoes. I believe the teacher must have had her record in the school. If it says she's a habitual brute, then it can be concluded that she isn't fit for the job but if not, then she should be queried and left to continue her job. Working with kids can be tough. ing through the Nigerian schools, things like this aren't rare to find. It shouldn't be condoned but what I saw in the video isn't a scenario that warrants a state punishment yet.

Even for us wey no go military school, this is a pat on the back.

However, this method of discipline no longer has a place in today's society. Times have changed

Lol. Aunty Buda, a vast majority of Nigerian pupils were subjected to this kind of treatment from their teachers, especially the playful ones, and they came out quite alright. It is outdated and high handed but usually gets the job done. However, there are other equally effective means of teaching a pupil who is slow to learn. So, while I disagree with her actions, it shouldn't be an overkill as someone here mentioned. From her body language her intentions are far from malicious

Have you stopped to wonder about the fact that Nigerians usually respond only to violence? That the only way Nigerians will do the right thing is if they are threatened with beating?

This is where it starts from. This is why Nigerians have to be whipped to stay in a queue. Because we have been raised like animals from childhood, like animals we can only respond to a stick and cannot be counted on to use common sense.

As in ehn. It's a vicious cycle.

That and the fact that Nigerians are just unruly by nature
