![]() So at the end of everything it's safe to say that Ironsi's government ordered the release of Awolowo just before he was murdered by TY Danjuma and co. The north took power and installed Gowon as a puppet then simply continued the process of releasing Awo. Ojukwu did not recognise Gowon whose rank was far below Brigadier Ogundipe who had been intimidated by the northern soldiers and fled to the UK. Ojukwu however ired Awo and gladly released him. 2 Likes |

I never knew Ironsi ordered Awo's release. I am sorry for that man. Today they blame him for everything because he died suddenly

Didn’t u comprehend what was written? Ironsi’s SMC had already released Awo & he was going to announce it before he was killed by Notthetn coup plotters. If ojukwu set Awo free against the federal wishes, he would have simply being locked up on arrival in Lagos. My assumption will be both parties needed him onthier side and Awo made the decision to side with the Nigerians, if that is a good thing or a bad thing, o don't know but surely a lot of lives were saved by that decision. |

saintkel: There was no regional Police nor correctional service. Both of these were in the control of the central government. And besides, Awo was convicted by a federal High Court and so only the Head of the Federal Government being Gowon as HoS had the powers to Pardon Awo. Have you asked why Awo went straight from Calabar Prison to Lagos to meet Gowon instead of driving to Enugu to meet Ojukwu? You IP0B goats are not smart one bit. 4 Likes |

The decision to release Awolowo had already been decided by Ironsi's Supreme Military Council, however, Ironsi was killed before he could implement it So Ojukwu observed protocol, and released Awolowo when he learnt of Ironsi's death But it is important to note that the release of Awolowo had nothing to do with Gowon. Ironsi had already decided to release Awolowo, was killed before he could do so, Ojukwu implemented it 1 Like |

buckeyemedia: Was Gowon in charge of Calabar prison, inside the Republic of Biafra? Think about it without tribal or political sentiments. |

Christistruth00: Apart from drama, PR, and politics, how did Calabar prison transition into Ikoyi prison? Who facilitated the transfer from the Biafran prison in Calabar to the pomp and pageantry of Ikenne, and the so called PR event at Ikoyi prison? |
Christistruth00: 5:05pm On Jan 07 |
eagleu: Calabar Prison was a Federal Prison It was not under Ojukwu's control Just as Enugu battalion was not under Ojukwu's control and that was why Ojukwu was still hiding from Northern Soldiers in the Police HQ when Awolowo was released and flown to Lagos Here is the FG Gazette of Awolowo's release from Jail 1 Like |

Christistruth00: Awolowo was in Calabar prison. You think he travelled all the way from Calabar to Lagos in prison cloths to meet Gowon? |
Christistruth00: 8:05pm On Jan 07 |
gidgiddy: Gowon also sent a Pilot and Soldiers from Lagos to pick Awolowo up from Calabar Prison Enugu battalion was not under Ojukwu's control and that was why Ojukwu was still hiding from Northern Soldiers in the Police HQ when Awolowo was released and flown to Lagos 2 Likes 1 Share |

Christistruth00: The way you guys conjure up these stories is amazing. What is your source of this tale that Ojukwu hid from Northern soldiers in the East? |
naijaking1: 8:18pm On Jan 07 |
buckeyemedia: Can't get into circular argument without facts with people who are blind to logic and basic reasoning. How did Awo go from a Biafran prison in Calabar to his home Ikene and then to Ikoyi prison to take pictures with Gowon? |
naijaking1: 8:22pm On Jan 07 |
Christistruth00: Very weak argument about a self serving former prison officer in Lagos, not Calabar. Until you give us of how Awo went from Calabar to Ikoyi, all you are making is just noise, political and tribal noise. |
gidgiddy: 8:25pm On Jan 07 |
Christistruth00: You guys should stop deceiving your selves with this false story and read what Awolowo himself self said about his release on page one Awolowo was released on August 3, Gowon was not head of State until 4th August. Gowon did not even have the power to release Awolowo the day Awolowo was released 1 Like |
naijaking1: 8:43pm On Jan 07 |
gidgiddy: Scary and unfortunate revision of history with only one purpose: distort facts. Despite a staged TV event to show Gowon releasing Awo from prison, Ikoyi prison 1000 km from Calabar prison where he had been held and graciously released by Ojukwu, the basic question about how Awo got to Lagos has not been answered. 1 Like |
