A recent wedding ceremony held in Ibadan for the daughter of Ekiti State Governor has sparked a heated debate about the state's infrastructure. The ceremony, attended by high-profile guests including the Vice President, governors, and senators, has raised questions about Ekiti's ability to host such events.

Mr. Sola Ogunlola, a prominent advocate for better Ekiti, pointed out the practical challenges of hosting such events in Ekiti, citing the state's lack of good roads and airport. "Which road would people use to access the state? How would private jets land?" he asked rhetorically.

Ogunlola's comments highlight the need for infrastructure development in Ekiti State. Instead of hosting the wedding in Ekiti, he humorously suggested that arranging a hall and transmitting the ceremony live from Ibadan would have been a more feasible option.

This incident underscores the importance of addressing Ekiti State's infrastructure challenges to promote development and facilitate events that can showcase the state's potential.

Many people don't know that those ekiti state people choose Ibadan as second home even people from other south west state stay in Ibadan apart from Lagos people. Fayose, Oyinlola, pa Bisi Akande, fayemi, bola ige, mimiko all of them stay and do business in Ibadan before the birth of 4th republic politics of Ghana must go, that was when most of them are moving to Lagos.

Na true. When her father is the Govornor. Why cant the wedding be held in Ekiti? grin

Anywas to an average Ekiti and ondo Person,Ibadan is their London and I say it with all sense of Pride. When they come to Ibadan their shoulder pad is always high.. grin

Matter of fact,Ekiti should not have been a state. It should still be under Ondo state but the Military were just dashing their friends State hence the creation of Ekiti State in 1997

Big thanks to the British and the Great Awo for placing Ibadan among major Capital cities in Nigeria

There are more Oyo people in Ogun state oo, but when it comes to closeness, then you need to be talking of Ondo and Ekiti.

Lot of Ogun people see Ibadan as home. Infact they have their own quarters in the heart of Ibadan.

Ibadan is like a melting pot of everybody. Even when the city was formed, it wasn’t only Oyo tribe that formed it.

The Ifes, Ijebus, and etc were part and parcel of Ibadan. Infact, Ijebu have their own quarters too in the main proper interior Ibadan around Popoyemoja, bode, Idi Arere axis.

grin I think you're right about this.
More people who settled in early Ibadan were Abeokuta people, the more southward you go lesser people migrate to Ibadan.
Then Lagos the most southerner axis has lesser migration to Ibadan.
Ibadan was suppose to be like a Lagos in Oyo State.

Ijebu are early settlers too. They are actually more pronounced than the Abeokuta in Ibadan from what I have seen.

My mom is Ijebu and dad Ibadan.

I guess the later inflows is due to the Western Region days of Ibadan as capital. Lot and lot of Yoruba moved into Ibadan.

Has nothing to do with infrastructure. Ekiti has good road network. The thing is, every well to do Yoruba leader has some sort of link to Ibadan due to the fact that it was the headquarters of the western region.

Hahaha, religiously, Oyo are monogamous in nature, so them spreading around is logical. Oyo state population is more than Ogun state now

So if u become a governor of a state, u will do the wedding ceremony of your daughter in another state because important guests will attend and the road to ur state is very bad, the airport there is still not functioning
