Concerned by the need to double contributions from tourism to Lagos State Gross Domestic Product (GDP) beyond previous years records, the State Government has opened Year2025 in a spectacular style, hosting Nigerians from the diaspora and lovers of Lagos to unforgettable events that exposed them to the cultural heritage and tourism sites across the state.

Swapping the norm of holding events at a centralized location for a roadshow for the first time in the state, further exposed the Diasporans and visitors from other states, who came to celebrate the Yuletide and the new year in Lagos, to the state’s beauty.

The roadshow themed “Lagos Tourism is Rising”, gave guests opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled ride with music, dance, and conversations as the double-decker tour bus, convoys of motorbikes, and the beautiful Lagos Ride vehicles moves around.

During the tour, everyone on the ride had a close feel of the state as the buses and bikers displayed through landmark axis in Ikoyi, Lekki, Lagos Island, and its environs.

With a touring initiative that allowed the guests to explore the beauty of the city, the group made stops at the JRandle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History as well as the Nike Art Gallery, and other strategic locations where they got more knowledge on Lagos than they had expected.

The event, which was the first and part of the new initiative the government is embarking upon in 2025 to further expose the world to beauty of Lagos, was later concluded with a delightful dinner where everyone tasted the best of cuisine from the centre of excellence.

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Art, and Culture, Idris Aregbe, who spoke on the initiative, said that the government aims to double the achievements recorded in 2024 in the current year without lowering standards.

To achieve this, Aregbe noted that the government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, aimed to do things better than the previous years particularly as it concerns tourism contribution to the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) while promoting the Lagos cultural heritage.

The Special Adviser added that this formed part of the reasons the roadshow was put together to give visitors an unforgettable sweet experience.

Aside from that, the governor’s aide stressed that he created this initiative to appreciate Nigerians in diaspora and lovers of Lagos across the globe for choosing the city as their preferred business and holiday destination.

Aregbe added that many programs of this magnitude would be introduced under the current istration to promote the Lagos cultural heritage and strengthen the bond between the diaspora community and Lagosians.

According to him: It was an opportunity for all to ire scenic views, and learn as well as appreciate our rich cultural heritage.

Aregbe stated that this will pave the way for further collaboration as the government recognizes the contribution of the diaspora community to the festivities and Lagos economic development.

While underscoring the primary aim of this city tour initiative, the Special Adviser announced that it will take place monthly, to give visitors reasons to pick Lagos ahead of other destinations.

He said the tour will be held on both land and water, reaffirming his intention to showcase Lagos and its growing transportation and tourism to the world.

Some dignitaries who attended the event included Khadijat Omotayo, Personal Assistant to the President on Constituency Affairs, and Oluwatoyin Atekoja, Permanent Secretary, Lagos Ministry of Tourism. Also in attendance was Nike Davies-Okundaye, Femi Adebayo, DJ Six7even, DJ DSF, Timi Agbaje, Kelvin Manpower, Hannah Montana, Former Miss Universe Nigeria, among others.

I think Lagos should seize this great opportunity to spend more on tourism to attract more visitations from people from other countries and since detty December is attracting lots of people from outside the country, it should start planning for a glamorous December from now.

Overall, Lagos is not bad at all. It is way advanced than what the media has been portraying it to be. The infrastructure is mind blowing and a lot is coming up too.
The Islands are in a different league all together. Just some very minute detailing here and there in few parts and they will generally become world class.
Places like Ikeja, Yaba, Marina,etc.. are ok too. They’re advanced than most African Countries capital cities.
With consistency,I’ll give Lagos the next 10-15 years and it will be unrecognizable.

The governor should just be intentional about reducing the number of “Agberos” on the mainland.
The operations of the “Yellow buses” can be improved on as well; ask each bus owner to upgrade their buses to a particular standard(s) with both the interior/exterior and engine systems. Those that are completely out of order should be remove from the road. I noticed that most of the drivers are aggressive for no reason. They are unnecessarily provoked to aggression for no reason whatsoever even at a stranger asking for directions. I also noticed that they’ll assume everyone speaks Yoruba even when someone is communicating in English to them.
They’re also very rough on the road and always in rush. The state government can organize continuous professional training for them to tackle these challenges. This is very important for a city that wants to establish itself as a go to global tourism hub.
The number of street beggars should also be looked at.

If the state has the money, the government should also be intentional about covering most of the gutters and pedestrian walkways ,and additional reduce the street trading /temporary stalls occupying most of the pedestrian walkways and foot bridges on the Mainland. Just regulate the street trading to some extent on the mainland.
The environment around rail tracks also needs constant cleaning up. I noticed too much of littering around it by street traders who even display their goods on the tracks as well as Agberos who loitered around.
Like I said, everything should be intentional for the city to come to speed with other global cities of repute.
So far, I’m impressed.

Yoruba is the language of Lagos
So your remark about assuming everyone speaks Yoruba is offensive and stupid
That is their homeland

What happens in Luanda, Sao Paolo , Beijing, Paris or Bogota. ??

You go to their homeland and say they assume everyone speaks Yoruba. If you cannot make an effort to learn do not go there.

The fact that you slavishly accept anglicization does not mean everyone else will or must. We view English as a mark of enslavement and will discard it one day.
You can continue teaching your children English if you like

Lagos is a Yoruba state not a global city . It is not for you to make aspirations for the owners of the land on their behalf. You people just open your mouths to vomit shit

Wow, I don't agree with you, if you're selling your state as a tourist destination, you need to make alot of adjustment for foreigners and domestic tourist, am yoruba and I go to , and many other non English speaking countries that are big on tourism, they all make allowance as per communicating with others that don't speak native languages

And who asked you to write a long epistle about whether it’s a “Yoruba state” or Igbo state or whatsoever?
How is that a concern for someone like me who is only visiting Lagos for tourism or business purposes?
I took my time to express my sincere s/observations objectively and the best you could come up with was a very obnoxious bile laced with subtle tribalism.
From an outsider’s perspective like mine, Lagos is just a global city in Nigeria. Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and others are just Nigerians that have established themselves very well globally. That’s all we see.
It’s sad that you completely failed to comprehend my message and only ended up engaging in unnecessary insults and unprovoked aggression just the same way I mentioned in my post.
Is the state not trying to position itself as a global city according to the efforts by the governor?
Doesn’t common sense dictates there should be allowances?
Is your role as a host not supposed to be that of a cajoling one rather than what you very self just displayed in this your response to my post?

You’re a very bad PR officer for Lagos state tourism drive. Please try to do better next time.

Anyways, hope you enjoyed your holiday?

Who is writing long epistles now?

Global city does not mean English

Travel all over the world there is nothing like English as a global language when dealing with people YOU INSULTINGLY CALLED AGBERO
you are a fool and a hypocrite now trying to play victim
Did anyone invite you don't go if speaking Yoruba offends you.
Do they speak English in every city in the world.
It is an idiotic thing to say.

Yoruba is their language and they are in their land

Every person in his land has the right to speak his language
If you don't like it go and SIT AT HOME

My message is not subtle it is very direct

When you travel it is good manners to make an effort to learn the language or pay for a guide

Yoruba is a global language learn it
