I don't even understand what's taking up Reeves time in delivering a script all this while.

The Batman premiered 8 Months before James Gunn was hired as DC Studios Co-CEO; and by the time The Batman II releases in 2027, the new DCU would have released at least 7 DCU PROJECTS.
That's too slow a process from Matt Reeves.

Matt Reeves is a very slow writer.

It took him 5 years to deliver the first movie.

No surprise The Batman part 2 is going to take another 5 years.

Also don't forget that during the time he's supposed to be working on the sequel, he worked on The Penguin and Caped Crusader and is a producer on DCU Clayface movie.

I like prison break movies but other than those scenes the rest of the movie was weak.

I doubt that the script isn't ready, especially with the fact that the statement in itself is ambiguous and would most likely mean that James Gunn doesn't approve of the script yet, because Matt Reeves said this a few days ago, so it not grounds for shifting the movie by over a year

And also no way they are allowing two Batman related movies release weeks apart, with clayface being the priority because it's in the DCU

James Gunn already addressed CLAYFACE and THE BATMAN II being close....he said CLAYFACE was in the DCU and doesn't really matter.

On Matt Reeves saying he's close to finishing up, still doesn't mean he's done with the work. No one is planning shooting and editing on "I'm almost done with it".
Robert Pattinson is in high demand and has other projects too. So if script is taking too long it disrupts previous plans on shoot time. Also take note the 2026 release was set over a year ago hoping pre-production would be wrapped up in time.
The Batman II was originally set to release in 2025 in case you all have forgotten. Then it was pushed to 2026 and still Matt Reeves continues to disappoint.

The star, Pattinson is set to play a huge role in Chris Nolan's THE ODYSSEY which starts shooting early 2025. So there's no way he makes it in time for The Batman II to get shooting, editing, VFX and sound and marketing ready before October 2, 2026. Batman II is planning for a late 2025 shoot which will most likely spill into 2026, so that October release doesn't look feasible.

In the same space, Gunn wrote & directed SUPERMAN and CREATURE COMMANDOS. Is a producer and writer of PEACEMAKER S2. Is also producer on WALLER show. So I'll say that's way more work combined than what Reeves has done with his time in two years. Same time frame Gunn has written 3 different projects!!

And Gunn already said few days ago that he's already doing a pre-writing work for a new DC project.

Something we ain't even sure Baba will drop full script that meets the quality DC is trying to set for itself going forward by Q1 2025.

Gunn doesn't have any problems with Reeves
He is just too slow and the industry can't be put on hold for him, he might be ready but Pattinson will then be engaged or some other major character that's supposed to be in the movie.
