For me, Nigerian degrees even if FIRST CLASS it's not actually useful outside Nigeria. Mostly in western countries i.e USA Canada Luxembourg etc.

That's why when people who relocate to this country who want to push on their professional careers always go back to school in those country.
Reason I guess is based on their educational and teaching standard requirements.

I think that university certificates awarded outside of western countries including Nigeria are irrelevant in western countries except highschool leaving certificate such as waec and its equivalent which can be used to secure tertiary education in western countries.

I hope someone shares more insight to your question here.

Good question..

I hope I try to explain this as much understandable as I can for you.

You see all those doctors here in Nigeria right, they are not doctors when the relocate abroad. They get jobs as home care aid to nursing sick people. That is a different occupation far far from practicing as a doctor in America or Canada or UK.
Infact you can as well apply to be a home care assistant as well with your university degree from Nigeria which is considered a normal equivalent to diploma here. You just have to the nursing exam which I know a 200level university student from Nigeria can read the Q&A and as well.
What you do is simply take care of old people or mentally unstable people and make sure they don't poop on their self or when they do you change them and also make sure they take their meds regularly and also monitor them so they don't harm their self.
Anybody can do that job infact that is equivalent to a factory job if you don't know only this time you be more careful because you handling a human life and can be arrested and you go to jail if you flop because it is stated there in your agreement you sign before you start working.

If you want to be a doctor in these countries, you have to apply for a medical or a nursing program/ degree where you undergo the process from the begining according to the countries teaching regulations and standards, the necessary exams, go for your training practice, write another exam if you fail you have to retake it which happens very often because I have friends who it has happened to. Then luckily you them you go under the process to be a certified nurse or doctor depending on the field you choose.

I hope you get the point now. Merry Xmas and season greetings.

Lol just typing rubbish with calmness han han feeding people with lies.

I am a physiotherapist, I got a job in UK directly from Nigeria in 2022 and I moved there and I work with NHS, I only applied for a license to work as a physiotherapist in UK. That is all I did.

I have met so many doctors that studied in Nigeria, working as doctors here, they didn’t have to go to any more school, they just wrote the licensing exams to practice which is standard.

I have countless number of nurses who got job directly from Nigeria.

Your posts are entirely wrong. Entirely, entirely wrong.

I'm a medical doctor, I'm doing this just to educate you and others that may read your posts later.

Most Nigerian certificates are acceptable in the West. The exams health workers write is to establish their proficiency and fitness to practice in those countries, and not for an additional education.

A medical doctor who trained abroad would have to write a professional exam organized by the MDCN before he/she would be able to practice in Nigeria.

Only a few countries respect international medical degrees without requesting for further examinations. For example, a doctor who has practiced in the UK for up to 2 years or so would be fit to practice in places like NZL and Australia without taking further exams. See?

Your assertion that Nigerian doctors only work in care homes unless they retrain abroad is unbelievably wrong, please. There are many Nigerian doctors working with the NHS with their university certificates... all they need to do is to IELTS and PLAB.

Hope this helps.

I have tried to explain this to you; please, follow.

Yes, them go write exam.

The same way foreign-trained doctors go write exam before them practice for Nigeria.

In your post you asserted that Nigerian certs are not acknowledged abroad. That doctors here work as care providers in nursing home. And all that.

Now, this is not true, boss.

Nigerian medical certificates are FULLY ACKNOWLEDGED abroad. The exams them dey write no be for extra university schooling or something...na to ensure they meet the minimum requirements to practice there are an FOG.

The BSC i obtained from unilorin and audit experience obtained in nigeria is what i used to get an audit job in Canada. My Bsc was evaluated by WES as seen below. Your BSC in Nigeria plus relevant experience in standard companies will get you jobs abroad if you have legal stay, some people in certain occupations are sponsored all the way from Nigeria e.g Nurses, Doctors, auditors, tech, engineers etc

Good you stated for you as there are many Nigerians working outside with their Nigerian degrees. Relevant certifications and valid work experiences from reputable companies in Nigeria contribute. But it is a lie to say Nigerian degrees aren't useful outside the country. As for medical doctors and even lawyers, that is standard across the world because those are country-specific professions. So interested persons must write the qualifying examinations. Even a Harvard Medical School grad must write MDCN qualifying examinations before practicing in Nigeria.

The major reason many study abroad is because the study route is the easiest way to leave Nigeria, not entirely because Nigerian degrees aren't useful or accepted.

Listen to me.
We are saying the same thing here.
But you are not breaking it down to the best you can. Not all degree even related to medical just because you hold the degree you can go to another country and go practice just like that.
Inside medical degree them get OG medical degree.

I have lived in different countries and I know what I am saying for you it might be different

There are some medical degrees infact my degrees related to medicine infact not just medicine or engineering etc if you tender am dem no go even send you.

Infact of today's word, your degree is just a piece of paper.
For some places with your degree they consider you OVER QUALIFIED. Been there done that.

Now I still stand on my word if you carry your Nigerian degrees go find job abroad 98% chance you not getting that job if you like drag with your ancestors. Infact just you African name self don spoil your application. ( You can argue on that with someone else)

Now like I said I no say Nigerian degrees is worthless but it is verly less considered. the country you are living will much likely want you to go to their school and get their certifications.

I know say you be talking about life in the UK or with respect to the UK. Come you don forget say we and the British educational system na almost the same thing. Or did you forget the colonized us Nigeria and made us learn their educational system.
Cary you Nigerian degrees go America or China or Luxembourg or Finland say you wan apply as doctor or you want professional job.
I dey wait you to show me your pay stub from those countries where our nature of education is way different from theirs EXCLUDING the UK.
Shoot.

Stop being dumb! Without the certificates they got in Nigeria, would they have qualified to write the licensing exams in the first place? Even foreign-trained doctors write an MDCN licensing exam before they are allowed to practice in Nigeria. So, stop embarrassing yourself.

"You see all those doctors here in Nigeria right, they are not doctors when the relocate abroad..." Yen...yen...yen. How many of them do you even know? Polluting a public forum with beer-parlour analysis.
