waoooooooooooo
Another person that invested the same 5m in bonds would have only gotten back just 10m in total. This is the main reason i am putting more weight in stocks than bonds.
The return is always massive with a fundamentally sound stock

that some people bought fundamentally sound dangote sugar at N80... They are crying today...

Sensible portfolio construction and adequate risk management are key to surviving in this market...

Predictable bonds are still very key in building a healthy portfolio and must not be ignored.

I agree.
My previous portfolio was 90/10 in favour of bonds but want to adjust it to probably 50/50

Pa Emma, do you know anything about Nipco PLC on NASD?
I’m yet to see any serious financials besides this and I heard they made N780bn revenue in 2023, paying the same N5 dividend. I listened to their AGM and apparently that N5 was from an EPS of N156 which seems too good to be true considering the share price is below that. They also have a higher book value per share than Total. I know they are in partnership with the FG on this CNG initiative and a lot has been done in that respect this year so I believe that their turnover should be almost N1trn or more.
emmanuelewumi:

Exactly, it is a stock that can be used to hedge currency devaluation.

The company underperformed for many years when it was managed by Nigerian CEOs, they currently have an Indian CEO who ed the company about 5 years ago

That is why I think, for someone actively following the stock market and doing occasional buying and selling, like many of us here, one should not buy a stock and then keep it for 5 years just taking dividend. You should actively trade it, selling during occasional peaks and buying at lows. In the end the power of compounding will give you much higher returns. You may also avoid the long down trends like the one of Dangsugar.

Aradel should be very available today. There is too much insider trading in that stock. Thats why they rushed in before the acquisition. Their acquisition bull cannot be strong since it had since been factored into the price.
In my opinion aradel is currently more expensive than seplat if you put their rrspective OS into consideration. But make no mistake, aradel is an excellent company with many future upsides

You are perfectly in order. In this business, you win some and lose some.Just try to win more is the way to be successful in the business. I have not sold my alhaji but missed 9 figure gain when it hit #80. It is so painful this yr

PATIENCE is golden. Someone might say what if it never gets to the junction? I will forget about it and look for some other opportunities

That is the painful truth. My BE on sugar is 24.when it got to #80.I was having 9 figure paper profit that I didn't cash out because it is a long time investment (retirement) plan.

I finally sold out at #324, with some profit but huge opportunity cost loss. The money is already working elsewhere.

Paper loss is relative and actually a consolation.
Do you consider the time interval?
If that investor had put that funds in OandO or FMN or UBA s/he would be on at least 20% profit...

Paper loss should be temporary (3-6months). Anything more than this is an actual loss... wink
