It goes to show that the government alone is not to blame for the sorry state of things. We Nigerians are also a big part of the problem because we actively work to sabotage efforts of the government to sanitize things.
Absolutely Ishilove, well said.

Depends on how quickly you want it.

If you want it in 48hrs. It's possible... just hold your bar

With N100k or less, you should have one in 48hrs

This is not possible

Don't listen to this guy unless you want to come and sit under the canopy and be coming back everyday. Never ever go to immigration office without a facilitator….I work there anyways just incase anyone is trying to quote their daddy.

Stop talking rubbish. If he do it online, no one will stop his capture. What the guy said is true. Nah so una go dey lie up and down.

I paid about 250k for it, and capturing was last month. It is ready but I am yet to get it.

The responses in this thread explains a lot why Nigeria is still the way it is.....

A vast majority of us are either beneficiaries or facilitators of corruption. We curse those at the very top not because we hate corruption but because we are envious of the amount of state resources they have access to.

Put many of us there and we will barely act differently. It is well....

@OP, if you need an international port, you should have planned ahead for it. Stop encouraging corruption.

The NIS should also create an official pathway or option for those who need a fast tracked processing. Say a 50% additional surcharge on the official cost for those who need their port in 1 week and 100% surcharge for those who need it in 24 hours. That way, government can generate more revenue and cut off all these corrupt officers and middlemen.

The government should also share some of the revenue with the immigration officers.

Since they would be beneficiaries of the revenue coming in, they would work extra hard.

I agree with you. This will indeed boost productivity

What is the percentage of your fee to the actual cost of the port? 🙄

A 10 year Nigerian port at the rate of 130k , is just too exorbitant for a country where the minimum wage is just 70k per month.

In contrast an EU port cost averagely 70 euros (119k naira) in most EU countries and the net minimum wage is about 1,500 euros per month.

Nigeria seem quite expensive to live in.

People in power in Nigeria are merely frying the citizens of Nigeria in hot frying pans.. Expensive to live in Nigeria but little or no job. Result is mass death.

Share revenue with them on what basis? They are salaried Civil servants! If NIS is demanding for revenue share, only God knows what NPA and Customs will demand

And that makes them a criminal? That’s their “service charge”. It’s like saying someone selling a bottle of coke for 1k5 is a criminal. They aren’t. It’s a free market. If the OP is happy paying that service charge, why not?

Rather, don't listen to this person. My first port application was filled online and I only went to the immigration office for capturing. I didn't know anybody there. My second renewal was the same thing, my biometrics were captured at their HQ in Abuja.

In all instances, I never gave a dime to facilitate what I assume should be my constitutional right. I was intentional about that.

Why nah? Just complete the form online and you get your capturing date and gbam. Everything within a month, at least that is what I did.

You do have a point. There needs to be a way to incentivize them to work better.

Anyway, the real problem with obtaining a port in Lagos is excessive demand.

In my home state of Akure, you can apply and get it within a day with no stress.

I might eventually go there if Lagos proves too challenging.

I did my registration online, went to ikoyi for capturing and finished everything that day even though I was made to wait for two hours cos I didn't bribe anyone. My port was ready after a month and few days. Don't corruption. I've always said it that the only way Nigeria would get better is if the citizens actually want it. Most Nigerians would only condemn corrupt practices if they don't benefit from it

So you're part of the people making the process unnecessarily cumbersome when there is a working system that ensures everyone gets served? And for what, a couple thousand naira?
