mumu man forming intellectual now that he has removed it for close to 2 years now what has been the impact on the country, any policy that have negative impact on the people is a useless policy
Besides it's not subsidy removal, it is Tinubu selling government goods and services at higher prices to met his revenue targets ,without considering the ability of the people to pay that's not balance economics, you increase price of dollar ,price of electricity tariff, price of fuel, price of university education etc
Causing crises in the life of people and the country
The policies are not well thought out
Nigeria is not dying in the next one thousand years so why the hurry for revenue at such an alarming price that will hurt the people
Worst part,is he now chanel it to frivolities, jets ,cars, jumbo jets, estacodes, building renovations, bribing of consequential people etc

Hmm, all this annoyance because fuel costs money?

@Kobo can you clarify somethings?

1. Are you a Nigerian?
2. Which part of Nigeria are you from?
3. Are you a "Western plant" in Nairaland? Because I have been observing you for a while and your activities here is very questionable

What they saying?

Joshcoli:
Below are examples:

1. Zambia
IMF and World Bank Policies: Implemented SAPs in the 1980s, including currency devaluation, removal of subsidies, and privatization.
Outcome: Economic stagnation, rising poverty, and significant social unrest followed. The reliance on copper exports exacerbated the crisis as global prices fell.

2. Argentina
IMF and World Bank Policies: Adopted neoliberal reforms in the 1990s, including currency pegging, privatization, and austerity.
Outcome: The policies led to a massive economic collapse in 2001–2002, with high unemployment, widespread poverty, and the government defaulting on debt.

3. Greece
IMF and European Central Bank Policies: Imposed austerity measures during the 2010 debt crisis as part of bailout agreements.
Outcome: Severe recession, high unemployment, and public protests. GDP shrank significantly, and the debt burden increased as a percentage of GDP.

4. Jamaica
IMF and World Bank Policies: Adopted SAPs in the 1980s, including devaluation, trade liberalization, and public spending cuts.
Outcome: Economic stagnation, growing debt, and increased inequality. Social services were severely affected, worsening poverty levels.

5. Indonesia
IMF Policies: During the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, the IMF mandated austerity, removal of subsidies, and liberalization.
Outcome: The policies deepened the economic crisis, causing mass unemployment, inflation, and widespread poverty.

6. Kenya
IMF and World Bank Policies: Adopted SAPs in the 1980s and 1990s, focusing on privatization and reducing public spending.
Outcome: Economic instability, reduced access to healthcare and education, and increased poverty.

7. Ecuador
IMF Policies: Enacted austerity and liberalization in the late 1990s as part of IMF agreements.
Outcome: Banking sector collapsed, unemployment soared, and millions emigrated due to economic hardship.
Similarities to Nigeria:

Policy Elements: Many of these countries, like Nigeria, experienced forced currency devaluation, subsidy removals, and privatization under IMF and World Bank guidance.
Outcomes: Economic instability, increased poverty, and public dissatisfaction often followed.

Lessons:
Structural Challenges: IMF/World Bank policies often fail to for local economic conditions.
Over-Reliance on Exports: Many countries depended on a narrow range of exports (e.g., oil for Nigeria, copper for Zambia).
Social Impact: Austerity measures disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, reducing access to essential services.
@kobo will disagree with you and blame all the countries you just mentioned........ Tell him about "the confession of An Economic Hitman" he will dismiss it and call it conspiracy theories.

Is it not still our own that is part of the World bank. Ngozi, have you them to torture Nigerians. Even if you see our leaders going down the wrong part, why don't you use your influence to frustrate any counter
-productive loans. Her own is to be seeking second tenure up and down.

Tinubu will continue to implement their policies because he needs to be collecting their loans... He knows if he doesn't cooperate with them no loans for him and his goons to collect and share grin
Buhari didn't listen to them yet he got any loan he wanted. Tinubu has low self esteem in the presence of world leaders it appears

Don't blame the IMF or World Bank.
Put the blame squarely on the clueless, incompetent, shallow and empty Tinubu who campauigned to become president but without any serious economic plan or blueprint

β€œLagos, for example, bears the burden of providing infrastructure for a large population but does not get revenue commensurate with this responsibility,” Sagay noted. β€œA reform that ties earnings to productivity is fair and will encourage states to be more self-reliant.”

One day somebody will explain the concept of a federation to this ewedu dunderheads so they will grasp it properly
This statement is like a Los Angeles indigene telling a Utah indegene to make Utah self reliant grin grin grin

When Tinubu became president last year i predicted a toughest 18months for him at the start. Nigerians have seen "shege" based on the reforms. What most people visualise when they hear reforms is instant noodles, unfortunately it does not work that way, it typically comes with real hard pain enroute success.

Most past presidents cowardly can not try these reforms because they are thinking of 2nd term or mass revolt. Buhari could no truly remove Subsidy for 8 yrs. Tinubu had to wait for 14 months to truly remove all fuel subsidy however if when navigated properly will birth a new nation. The foundation is relayed to promote productivity, discipline and vision . The budget of Nigeria a country of over 200 million can not afford to be same as a Tier B university in USA and we expect massive development

You are high on crack. Mr IMF spokesperson. What magic would happen after 18 months? Or even 4 years? You don't implement reforms without having a solid backup.

It wunt survive. But wat measures was put in place before removing the subsidy? No salary increase no reduction of tax. No economic empowerment for business people. Nothing. Den boom u remove subsidy completely. Why not remove 50% of the subsidy and watch how things will be? Tinubu is a wicked man. Tak it or leave it. May his employees and children go haywire and run his business d way he is running Nigeria... Amen

This is Nigeria. If he waits for measures to be in place, nothing will get done.

But the government actually did do things.

The first measure they put in place was the CNG vehicles. People can covert to CNG. CNG is cheaper.

Secondly, Minimum wage was doubled.

Thirdly, the government actually wanted to provide cash to people under a World Bank scheme but there was insufficient data to find beneficiaries.

Nevertheless, let the subsidy go. It's causing far much harm than good.

Are you are Nigerian or not?? If you claim to be Nigerian then which part of Nigeria are you from?...

1. You exude this funny and false sense of superiority in most your replies in Nairaland
2. You also display a lot of wokeism in your write ups.
3. You employ gaslighting methods a lot also.
4. You don't have to say it out loud but you see the African/Nigerian man as inferior hence your false sense of superiority.
5. Basically something is off about you and I doubt your Nigerianess

Well, obviously you will not respond to my question and have decided to employ gaslighting methods....... It's okay.

Let us talk about your "primary interest" then......

3. Why do you believe that the Professor, Nigerians and other people that has accused the IMF and world bank are brainwashed?

World Bank/IMF is not responsible for creating the many problems fueled majorly by corruption, blatant incompetence, and a general lack of concern for the welfare of the people that has been wrought by this istration. It is as simple as that. πŸ€”

These rants against the IMF/World Bank are the usual distractions that have become the mainstay in Nigeria, and much of the dysfunctional/underdeveloped world ruled majorly by kakistocrats. undecided

I agree with bolded; Corruption, Incompetence and lack of concern for the Country is a very big issue in Nigeria........ Now, if you and me agree that the country is very corrupt why is the IMF/world bank giving conditional(removal of subsidies) loans to Nigeria?

I mean, @kobo you must also ask yourself why IMF/world bank keeps giving Conditional loans to "dysfunctional/underdeveloped world ruled majorly by kakistocrats"

Look, the removal of subsidies will naturally bring about inflation, unemployment, crime, general hardship and the Economy will be affected badly.

Why does the IMF/world bank usually insist on subsidy removal before loans are given to "dysfunctional/underdeveloped world ruled majorly by kakistocrats"

1. I don't need to ask such stewpid questions. Why? Because the IMF/World Bank never forced any country to take loans from it and it has no real reason to date to deny Nigeria's loan requests. Nigeria applied for loans and based on its credit history, the IMF/Wolrd Bank grants its request. In the same way, China never forced any country to take loans from it. And yes, loans come with conditions majorly to ensure that loans are paid back NO MATTER WHAT. undecided

2. Stop! The topic is an attempt to blame the IMF/World Bank for the corruption, incompetence, and general lack of humanity that is personified by the particular leaders of the country called Nigeria. It makes no sense! undecided
