Hello Nairalanders, I'm not here to brag, I just need advice before I get lost.

I have two relatives living abroad (UK), both are from my mothers side, same father and same mother...

Just few days ago, I was called and told that they are making plans to send me to the UK early next year to go and stay with my uncle and find something doing there... they already communicated with my uncle abroad, and they just wanted to surprise me.

I'm 29 years old now, I graduated from school last two years as a petroleum engineering. Though, I'm not doing any work for now. My girlfriend is pregnant for me, and I have not disclosed it to anybody yet.

But the truth is that my mind doesn't want to go, I'm not ready and I have told them. They have already started telling me this is a one time opportunity, and that if I miss it, I won't see it again, but I have made up my mind that I don't want to go.

I just can't leave my friends here, I just don't know but I can't..

I need advice,

Why should I go, when my self and my mind is not ready...

If you have any chance to leave this dead country, seize that opportunity as fast as you can and don’t look back.

Your friendssssss and girlfriends whom you reluctant to let go of, you will be of better help to them if you outside the country and sending them hard currency to better their lives.

Unless you earning 500k per month, living in your own house and having no fears for tomorrow then by all means stay back.

But if you buying beans 600naira a cup like I did on Saturday, 200 naira for one egg like I did on Sunday, and 1300 naira for a liter of petrol like I did this morning to fill my gen just to pump water since we’ve not had light since February,

If you worried about getting harassed on transit by clueless police officers standing at checkpoints seeking to fleece you of your hard earned money, if the name TPain is on your lips like every other Nigerian……

Go ahead and ask yourself why you even thinking twice about this once in a lifetime opportunity, if it’s not village people goading you into staying back so they can monitor your activities and have the final say.

I’ve said more than enough

My peace I leave you

Seems to me you are trapped and you are in trouble.

But from one brother to another brother I will tell you leave this country and don’t look back.

Go ahead and make plans for her to you in UK when you have the means

But do not allow a pregnancy to hinder or thwart your dreams of getting a better life.

Something is making me feel this opportunity may not arise again, so seize it and make the best use of it.

When you finally decide to leave, do not Tel anyone. Gf, friends, hood guys or cousins.

Take everyone by surprise when they call you after weeks of not seeing you and you tell them you in London.

You will find me one day to thank me…….but until then, May God’s Grace abide with you, even as I wish you journey mercies on your trip.

I just can't leave my friends here, I just don't know but I can't
... until those your friends leave you

If you gave a more valid reason probably, I would have said you are making a point. It's sad that a 29 year old man is still thinking like a child. No wonder your people are helping you to sparogatively plan your own future.

If e no be juju. I no do.

Dem wan make person life better for free.

Him say No want.

10 years from now, you will look back and wish you left.

Mind you if the reverse was the case, that gal go abort that child just to travel out.

Better plan how to make this work without sacrificing this opportunity.

The people fighting for you have rhe means now. When u think u are ready just forget any help from them.

Had i know is the last comment of a fool.

How u take sure say na ur pikin?

Na dat one go lead to suicide if no be ur own.

I met someone sometime last year who shared similar story of himself. His parents wanted him to travel but he had few things to sort out here in Nigeria plus his girlfriend convinced him to stay due to love. He said it happened several years ago. Now, this same girlfriend has traveled abroad, married someone else while he seems trapped here in Nigeria. Both parents are now late. U seem like someone responsible and afraid of leaving his pregnant girlfriend at this point. However, sit down and discuss with the parties involved and make a concrete plan on how she can be well taken care of while u are away. And make arrangement for her to u when appropriate.

I will advise you to leave Nigeria. I am 40 and I regret leaving Nigeria when I did some more than 4 years ago. When my friends were leaving when I was 27, I said I would not leave that I will make it in Nigeria. Some years down the line, I looked inward and accepted my fate that I and my family's fortune would be better elsewhere. I made that move and I have never for once in my life regretted that decision.
I know Nigeria is bad but I am amazed that People in Nigeria tell me that the Nigeria I left then isn't that Nigeria anymore.

Luxuries I found challenging to lay my hands upon when I was in Nigeria is so easy for me right now. Life isn't yet what I want it to be but everyday I wake up, I see light ahead of the tunnel unlike when I was in Nigeria.

I hope you seize this opportunity and not regret it when you now want to make that move, the opportunity isn't there anymore.

Not everyone is destined to make it abroad also likewise in Nigeria. Pray God reveals what decision to make to you. My two cents.

You still haven’t said any valid reason for not wanting to leave Nigeria. You are 29yo and jobless. Yet you went on to impregnate your girlfriend??

You better figure your life out and real fast.

Hopefully you don’t regret this decision.

Send you to UK with which kind of visa?

Perhaps, what you need is clarity. What are you going to do in the UK? What visa are they trying to process? Ask questions because your write up isn't clear you know why/how which is truly confusing.

If I am that your girlfriend, I will be talking serious sense into you now. You are too comfortable. You don't want to leave the comfort zone.
You better start packing your load. Don't let love blind your eye. Start planning a better life for yourself, the unborn child and mother.
