It literally breaks my heart.

The reason being that this isn’t politics as usual. Maybe in the short term, nothing too terrible might happen that we can’t persevere through. Maybe we might have to tighten our pockets more to withstand the price hikes that are coming because of his tariffs (so much for improving the economy 🙄).

Maybe we’ll ignore a few more emboldened racists and misogynistic assholes. Maybe we’ll pray harder that a trigger happy police officer doesn’t hurt our loved ones and get away with it due to qualified immunity he promised them.

Those are “little” things. But the long term effects of the institutions he’s plotting to destabilize will be felt by our children. And the judgments of the extreme right wing judges he’s going to appoint will be felt by our children’s children. Coming back from this man will be a nightmare walk back from the grave.
