A viral video obtained by SaharaReporters captured the senior military officer and his aide physically attacking the couple.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed an incident involving Major General G.S. Mohammed and his aide, Corporal A. Abubakar, who were captured on video assaulting a couple, Mr Vershima Mker and Ms Lami Jennifer Iorvihi, in Abuja.

The altercation occurred following a road incident in the Federal Capital Territory.

A viral video obtained by SaharaReporters captured the senior military officer and his aide physically attacking the couple. Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that the incident occurred after Mr Mker overtook Major General Mohammed's vehicle.However, the military officer stopped the couple, dragged them out of their car, and subjected them to severe physical abuse.

According to the couple, after the assault, Major General Mohammed and his aide handcuffed them, shoved them into the trunk of a vehicle, and transported them to Gwarimpa Police Station. The couple alleged that the General ordered the police to detain them indefinitely until he gave instructions for their release.

Speaking to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, Nigerian Army spokesperson, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, said the Army authorities were aware of the viral video showing the assault.

"The Chief of Army Staff has directed investigation into the matter. But we have not been able to ascertain the veracity of the video now because we were not privileged or privy to the incident that led to the altercation.

"So I can't make further comments other than the fact that the Chief of Army Staff has directed that it should be investigated. You know, you can have a video of where there was an exchange, but we don't know what led to the exchange.”

"So maybe when the army hears from the major general, then we will know what actually transpired. So right now, the Chief of Army Staff has directed that we should investigate it. So we want to ascertain the veracity of that incident," Nwachukwu added.

The conduct of the senior military officer is very shameful, irresponsible, dehumanising and unprofessional of his status . The couple were not even a threat to his life going by the video.

He is a public servant entitle to usage of the road as the couple. So why the show of military might? In saner climes, military men are not seen or heard.

I was driving some time ago minding my business, on a journey when I overtook a car and ended up between 2 cars I later found out were in convoy, military.
But it was a madam that was in the back seat of the car behind.
When that one overtook me eh if you see the eye them give me eh e reach for me to carry my car dey go back house.
I never knew there was implication of overtaking convoy oh!
Mind you there was no insignia of army na when I see the uniform I no say God save me.

If you all Wants to be sincere, watch the video closely, He's a maj gen & should be respected, Even the guy's attitude in response to the soldiers says alot. Common SORRY would have averted all that but nonsense pride made them to stand up to military men and a general for that matter.

Ask them o, Army they decieve them with audio investigation when it's clear the civilians were at fault!

For over 10 years now I have never seen a soldier in my life, even when I through their barracks. I use to ask myself, are there no military personnel in this country where I live?

The only people I see are the police, fire emergency, ambulance and not even frequently.

Nigeria has a very long way to go.
