Has there ever been a year in Nigeria's history when 'most Nigerians' can afford a car?
A car is a luxury anywhere in the world.
I don't understand how this is news

With the number of cars I still see on Lagos roads , traffic/holdup and even still with high cost of petrol sold at N1075 per liter depending on the filling station u buy.i am still not too convinced Nigerian motorists are feeling the impact of these problems highlighted in this write up.sometimes I wonder and ask myself how do Nigerians make this money and survive?the roads are still very busy, new car plate numbers and seen on daily basis, and traffic buildups are still experienced in many usual areas and this make me wonder.Nigerians are very resilient people they will always find ways to beat around this economy and still make good living for themselves

I don’t think you are correct because these days each time I’m traveling the number of cars on the highways are noticeably reduced compare to how’s before now.

dey play. Nigerian's population are way too many for you to actually notice or observe. And you can't just draw your conclusion on that. People are suffering, there is economic decline and hardship
F117nighthawk:
I never said people are not suffering,I only made my comments of the topic,as bad as the inflation and downturn of it on the car importation and sales business is,u hardly notice the impact based on the numbers of cars u still see on our roads,I go out sometimes without my car yet I still feel the rush and the amount of movements of cars u still see even as petrol price and cars has gone up
quote author=Adewale1603 post=133023604] dey play. Nigerian's population are way too many for you to actually notice or observe. And you can't just draw your conclusion on that. People are suffering, there is economic decline and hardship
I have been saying that if I were president, I would not be bothered with corruption. I would just face over population. That's all. And I have my plan to tackle it.

It takes time to fully grasp that overpopulation is our true problem, not corruption. Why? Overpopulation has fueled corruption, so no matter how you combat it, it will not die. So, we just need to stop fighting corruption amd cut off its food.

The bad news is that it will take about 20 years after cutting off the food supply to see any significant positive effects. This is the state we are now. It is why I always laugh at political commentators. Lol.

Japa is a temporary solution if you want to have a good life. If you are in your 20s or older and still want to pray for Nigeria, sorry. japa!

It has reduced, but still abnormal. I believe you haven't traveled outside Nigeria to see the right number of vehicles that suppose to be on the road. LAGOS vehicles are crazily too many and. And the sad thing is that the cars are all polluting the air. It has reduced, but still too many.

Why do you think Dangote is not still bothered? Market is in Lagos mehn! Vehicles are still too many on the road.

Very bad analysis.... I drive and trust me the cost of driving is way better than using buses.... The stress of using public transport can cause breakdown and Malaria.... So allow car owners to use what's best for them

T-Pain is truly doing Extra Level of APC shege that Buhari started, instead of the change promised.

Emergingnation:
Flashback: How Bola Tinubu spoke highly of Buhari in 2015, named PDP ‘Poverty Development Party

National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu had during the presidential campaign in 2015, referred to President Muhammadu Buhari as the only solution for the security and economic challenges facing Nigeria.

During a mega presidential rally, the former governor of Lagos State recalled how some powerful nations in the world returned to army generals when they were challenged, saying “Major General Buhari would revive Nigeria’s economy”.

He named the current opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP as the “Poverty Development Party saying they had nothing to offer.

His words at the time were; “Every nation has a period of their own challenges, when America was challenged, they turned to one great man, their ex-military general, General Eisenhower. When the French were challenged, they turned to their general, Charles de Gaulle.

“When Britain was challenged, they turned to their general. Today, Nigeria is economically and physically challenged so we turn to General Muhammadu Buhari. He is the right man for the job. If you talk about military experience, he has it abundantly, he has courage, simplicity, he has it abundantly.

“If you talk about great determination, a combination of vision and ability to perform, honesty and integrity, he has it abundantly.

“I laugh when the incapable government, ‘Poverty Development Party’ PDP were talking. They have nothing again to say, they now want to question the qualifications of General Buhari and look for his certificate”.

Following the manifestos in 2015 which projected the APC presidential candidate as a ‘saviour’, Buhari defeated the then incumbent president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with Nigerians expecting a total change in security and economy.

Apart from the forex issue, the custom duty on imported cars is outrageous, how can you pay 60% duty on a vehicle? If the govt wants to ban importation of used cars they should just go ahead and do it.

How do you sell something when your first incidental expense is 60% what of other expenses? Look at the prices of used cars in January this year and now its outrageous.

Imagine buying a naija used RX330 for 7m, in 2022 You could get a foreign used one for less than 5m.

The custom duty creates an unrealistic price disparity, people will look for alternatives. Not everyone can shell out 20m or more for a compact new car, people will rather use such funds for other things like Japa.

Custom will take your head and arm if you try to import old cars, try and find out the cost of clearance.
Any car that is more than 10 or 15yrs(not sure the yr), custom go nearly tell you to sell family land for the clearance

Hmm!

Most of the problems are quite straight forward to solve...but if you have inferiority complex to the extent of allowing what doesn't please you to slide just because you don't want your superiors to put you in their bad records...you will continue to suffer...

I asked why Using dollars to compute money in our Ports when you know our Naira is very weak?? Won't that make prices of Goods unnecessarily expensive??

They say! Oh you know Nigeria is part of World Custom Organization and that's the standard... you prefer your Citizens to die just because WCO shouldn't be angry with you...

I asked why can't our Crude Oil be sold to local Refineries at our own reduced price and not international Price of Crude...so our Refineries could in turn sell to the Nigerian market very cheap...and you secure the Borders??

They said! Oh you know there are many international stake holders in Nigeria's Oil sector they won't allow that...this one is the most ridiculous and daring...So the Population should suffer just for you to look like a gentleman to the white people...

This applies to individual life too...the day you prioritize the happiness of someone else over yours... that's the day the Universe will turn everything against you... whatever you try to achieve will be given to your master energetically and physically...you have made that person your lord and you the slave...so the Universe will understand that REQUEST of yours and grant it...

There is no going back from Doom unless we prioritize ourselves over anybody in this world and stand by it...

God have mercy on Nigeria!

US trade embargo since the 50s put an end to imports. Factories and those old cars in Cuba are maintained with parts modified to keep them running. Are we not going to survive If we experience economic blockade or zero forex to import?
We should borders were closed during covid and we survived

Ask yourself how many of the owners of those cars you see on the road will be able to buy same at the current value. A lot of people are buying Nigeria used cars and refurbishing them to look new. You won't know if they don't tell you.

Even if buying from China with Yuan, it will have little to zero significance.
The dollar effect will still reflect, as it will determine how much of 1naira equals to yuan, the only difference now is that you will need to find who will accept naira from you to give Yuan, in this case, CBN. Be ready for another round of roundtripping from CBN staff, bankers and FX sellers, as they will capitalized on it when they noticed surge in demand
