Since the end of the war in 1970, there have been ceaseless and desperate attempts by federal Nigeria and the main beneficiaries of the unfortunate outcome of the war who reside in the South West and the north, to balkanize the former Eastern Nigeria. This has been done through all sorts of measures, including nebulous state creations and tricky boundary adjustments, that have carved out many Igbo communities at the peripheries, and handed them over as minorities to surrounding non Igbo speaking states.

These acts have led to a lot of marginalisations, segregations and taunts directed towards these set of Igbos. It has also led to a situation where the five South Eastern states have been neglected and deprived of deu royalties, allocations, appointments and all what not from the federal government. For instance in every project for development or sharing of resources in Nigeria, the South East states ALWAYS come last. ALL THE TIME! SINCE 1966!!!

Recently, An attempt by the Igbos in Delta state to have a new state created for them and to their kiths and kins in the South East, instigated a firestorm as many people especially from the ruling South West section of the APC, insisted that there are no indigenous Igbos in the Niger Delta. Even when these interlopers were reminded of the language and other cultural similarities between the Igbo speaking parts of the Niger Delta and the Igbos in the South East, they stuck to their guns.

My questions here are; since this view is popular in the South West, can we stretch the diabolical logic behind it by saying that the Aworis and Eguns are not Yorubas, especially now that these groups are desperately angling for a breathing space in Lagos their homeland? Since most interior Yorubas can't even understand whatever the Aworis speak, while most Igbos can easily understand the Ika dialect, can we insist that Lagos is not a Yoruba state but an Aworis and Eguns state, the same way some South westerners want us to believe that Ikwerres and Ikas are not Igbos but "Niger Deltans"?

I'm confused..

Aworis are debatably Yorubas but the Egun who call themselves Ogu people are not Yorubas. They are closer to the Fon speakers of Benin republic than Yorubas. Their language isn't even Yoruboid but the intonation is similar to Yoruba intonation. The king of Badagry, an Ogu man bears the title 'Akran' and not 'Oba'. The Ogu history is well documented. They can be found in South Eastern Benin republic, Lagos and Ogun states. A good number of the Ogu people in Nigeria are bilingual in Ogu and Yoruba but they're not Yoruba or a yoruboid group.
One key thing to identifying a Yoruboid group is the absence of the alphabet 'z' in their language or dialect.

Comparing the Ika and Ikwerre situation towards the SE Igbos as similar to the Egun/Yoruba connection is totally wrong. The others are pure dialects of Igbo while Egun isn't a dialect of Yoruba.

Define Lagos
You are a fool
Lagos state was created in 1967

It had 5 divisions
Lagos
Ikorodu
Ikeja
Epe
Badagry
Prior to 1967 the Lagos division stood alone as federal capital
The other 4 divisions were part of the Western Region governed from Ibadan
REPEAT IBADAN

AGAIN..?

IBADAN

*Ibadan was responsible for Ikorodu Epe Badagry and Ikeja till 1967

Badagry covers all of Orile Festac etc

Ikeja covers Mushin Isolo

So the capital alone was federal until 1967

Epe and Ikorodu are Ijebu land

Badadry is Awori and Egun and
Ikeja is a mixture of settlers from Nupe. e.g Oshodi Egba e.g Abule Egba etc

So don't put dirty mouth in Lagos State matter if you don't know the history

Oga caryy that your oversabi enter ochanja round about and start stepping on empty pure water sachets if you don't have anything meaningful to say, you hear? Stop pokenosing on issues way above your grasp.

I come from a part of Imo state that was divided into two by Obasanjo and Mamman Nasir boundary adjustment committee of the 70s As a result, the same community was divided into two, oil rich part was dashed to Rivers state and the remaining left in Imo state. Thise parts s for the biggest internally generated oil derivation funds for Rivers State.

The areas with little or no oil were left with imo state. That was the case till oil started going out of fashion while gas slowly becoming the main thing. Now, we are being told of how the same community will be yanked off totally from Imo and given to Wike and Rivers state, why? Because that area has some of the biggest gas deposits in Nigeria if not Africa. That's Nigeria politics for you.

You can sit there and be forming sophisticated while trillions are stolen from your backyard. When the wells and gas fields run dey, they will drop you in abject poverty and move on. These guys making these arguments here know what they're doing in Abuja, but some of you Igbos are just sooo utterly naive that you will prefer to slave to death in your shops than fight and get a chunk of what belongs to you, which can totally change your lives forever.

Every part of Igbo land must be brought back into the fold.

Nobody is begging anybody for anything but some military Generals should not dictate the Igbo boundaries.

That said, why are the Yorubas trying to "accommodate" the Eguns in Badagry?
Are they now "accommodating by force "!

Take your matter to the Ikweres who have rejected you since 1530AD.

Instead of trying to reconcile and settle with your estranged Ikwere cousins , you carry your madness enter Yoruba land.

Tell me why anybody won't rightly reject you ?

Complacency, that's how some parts of Igbo land became Muslim areas today with all the attendant future problems for Igbo cultural progress going forward.

What do you know? They are building a pipeline to sell gas from Abia and Imo states , but will pay more derivation funds to northern states.

Dey there dey look for peace to sell "ngwa ahia".., when your fellow country men have turned you into the real ngwa ahia

Before the civil war when Igbos were in charge of Nigeria and Ikwerres could benefit from identity of being Igbos, ikwerre people in their entirety vehemently denied that they are Igbos. During and after the war ikwerre people said they are not Igbos.
Ikwerre denials of being Igbo led to the extermination and pogrom attempt of the ikwerres by the Igbos during the war.
In 1963 ikwerre people formed Ogbakor Ikwerre and Igbos formed Ohaneze in 1966.

I am Egun...we migrated from Oyo...that makes us Yoruba. Our language is a mixture of Fon and Yoruba due to long years of deep association and acculturation with both tribes.

So yes Ogus are bilingual we speak both Yoruba and Fon...but we definitely emigrated from Oyo.
