The way to heaven is through the salvation brought about by GOD and Jesus Christ. Once you are saved, I assure you that you will know where GOD stands on tithing.

There is nothing wrong with pastors preaching about both tithing and salvation. The message may not have been for you. What one reaps is what one sows. You don't have to be a Christian for that to be true in your life. I however encourage you to give your life to Christ if you haven't done so already. It doesn't mean your life will become a bed of roses. GOD never promised that in the Bible.

I'll pray for you and advise you search your inner heart and ask God to speak to you the way you'll understand. Once you give your life to Christ, worldly things won't matter to you and you'll have no reason to defend tithing any more rather you'll strive to live the life that Christ lived.

The issue of tithe is to make believers pay continually to the church.

Stop being mischievous. Jesus actually condemned tithing. If you looked at the Mathew 23:23 quoted by you, the opening statement is 'Woe unto you, teachers of law and pharisee, o ye hypocrite. You paid tithe in mint, cumming......' The meaning is that Jesus condemned them for placing emphasis on tithe, just the way your god of men today place emphasis on tithe.

Moreover, the Bible is a contextual material. The question, who, when and what must be answered.

In this scripture, [b][/b]who was Jesus talking to? He was engaging with the Pharisees, the teachers of law-Law of mosses. These are people who propagate mosaic law of which tithing is an integra. Jesus was not talking to the first Christians-his disciples. The question is are you a pharisee of a Christian? If you are pharisee, who still believe in mosaic law, then you cannot be a Christian. In fact, you are in denial of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Check Galatians 3:13. The death of Jesus delivered christians from the curse of law. Also check James 2:10, you will realize that when you keep one law, in this case law of thithing and you neglect others such as burnt offering, stoning of non-virgin priest daughters, trimming of your beard, you have disobey all laws. That's while payment of tithe brings you bag to the curse of the law, which Jesus has saved you from as no man can satisfy the requirement of the law.

When was he making this statement? The statement was made before his death and resurrection, meaning it was before the enactment of the new covenant. It was the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that enacted the new covenant and that's why it was upon his death that the temple veil was tore. Jesus himself operated under the law and that's why he could not outrightly tell the Pharisees (not the christians to stop paying tithe). However, he did not miss words to condemn the overreliance on it, calling those who pay it hypocrites.

What was he talking about? he was talking about tithing within the mosaic law prescription. That's why he never mention tithe as morning. All the specifics mentioned by Jesus in that scripture was agricultural produce. This is because God never asked anybody under the law to pay tithe with money, despite that money has been in existence, even before mosaic law. For example, Joseph was sold for money, not for farm produce and that was pre-mosaic era. If you study your Bible very well, you will realise that apart from farmers, other professionals including fishermen and carpenters don't pay tithe under the mosaic era.
