Thank you for this information. I also have a similar challenge for my brother's application. I know in the old system you could change the DS number. Do you know anyone who has done this? what is the possible implication? I would appreciate your thought on this!

OmoOtuabagi:

You cannot change it. Fill another Ds 160 then take both the new and the old one along on your appointment day.

Please help!!

I didn’t mention in my DS-160 form that my older brother lives in the U.S. Can I fill out a new DS-160 with that information and bring both forms to my interview? I’m concerned that if they ask me about family in the U.S. and I say no, they might already have my brother's information in the system, which could make me look dishonest. But if I say yes, it would create inconsistencies since I didn’t include him in my DS-160.

For context, I’ll be going for my F-1 visa interview. My brother was also an F-1 student but is now on an H-1B visa working full-time.

It’s better not to mention your brother because he stayed back which shows you will do the same. F1 is non-immigrant visa which means you must return after study. Also that’s why you get asked, what’s your plan after getting the degree? They wanna know your intent of returning.
Nobody ties your brother with you unless you mention it. Americans don’t assume that because you bear same surname, you are brothers.

@Cyfar

It is now permissible to fill another ds form 160 and take the old and the new ds form 160 slips to your appointment.

It is not a bad omen to mention your family in America , you cannot just be disassociating yourself from your siblings because you want to create visa success background. Like someone have writing here B4, no matter the crime of your family member , you will not be hold able for it if you are qualify for your own visa. Can't we see the sample of Americans freedom of rights in the just concluded election?

If your brother advanced from F1 to H1b with due legal process there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It will not affect your own visa. Your own intentions and qualifications is the business of the visa officer. The only aspect that can affect anyone with same family name is when one is a hardened criminal or well known criminal.

Take this advice if you are ready to gamble with your interview. Either your family uses legal or not is not the issue here! Your sibling used F1 route to stay behind and you expect the VO who is human to believe you will not follow same legal route? F1 is non-immigrant with intention of returning!!!
You can decide to gamble it sha
Just my own small piece of advice

I get you . But what about this : You are on F1 in the US doing MSc with the intention to come and get a job in a very good organisation in Nigeria. Then all of a sudden, Microsoft in the US or Apple America offers you are genuine long term employment as a result of your cgp distinction, will you reject the job ?

After accepting the offer , do you want to tell us that it was your intention to stay behind ? We should stop deceiving ourselves. Everyone including myself is looking for a better future.

Goodluck with your better future. All the best!
I’m not the one seeking visa, na advice I drop

Any J1 approved visa transcript here. There seems to be a scarcity of J1 visa applicants in Nigeria. My interview is coming soon and there’s little to no transcript online

@OyoTunjiUSA
( please @ayomide98) where you able to do anything about it cause I’m facing the same issue . Mine has been like that for 3 days now
This is our story,

We have paid the mrv on the new portal and currently our portal states “Preapproval request processing”, which apparently means the application is with the embassy we chose(Lagos embassy), and perhaps they held us because there’s no available dates for F category in their embassy, this has been for the past 3 weeks and our resumption is next month, whereas our counterparts who chose Abuja embassy got the stage “preapproval request” sorted within 2 days, ours has spanned for 3 weeks now and there’s not been any communication from the embassy or anywhere on the portal.
We have created tickets and call the portal , we were made to understand there’s nothing they can do from their end, that it’s a case with the embassy

Our intention: So we want to create a new with a fresh email and start another application from scratch selecting Abuja as the post, and we wouldn’t mind if we are to pay a new mrv and fill a new DS160.

Is that possible/acceptable?

Also we would be glad to know if there’s any suggestion from you as way out.

Hello,
I was denied a visa in september for a Spring 2025 date and I am applying again. My preferred interview location is Abuja but the dates are only in January and later which is too late.

1. If I pick the January date will I be able to request for an expedited interview date even though I was denied a visa in the last 6 months?

2. If the expedited interview request is denied and an earlier date is opened can I reschedule the regular interview again?

3. Once you book an appointment in Abuja can you change it to a date in Lagos?

Per the rules, you will need to wait one year before you qualify for another expedited appointment.

Take the time to go through previous posts on here and you should find information (especially on filling a form/sending an email) that could be useful for your situation.

I am not sure what percentage of (successful) US VISA applicants from Nigeria are represented by those posting on nairaland (or online in general) so it may not be a good idea to use that as a statistics, in my opinion. I have visited the U.S twice on a J1 VISA and I don't think I came visiting nairaland concerning my VISA application process when applying for the VISA those times (if I recall correctly).

- My advise is to ensure to demonstrate good ties showing you would be back to the country (just like other non-immigrant US VISA categories I believe). I think it would also be nice if you are being funded by the program or in the position you will be undertaking while in the U.S to an extent that will be beyond doubt capable of covering necessary associated expenses.

- Try to be able to clearly explain what you will be doing (and it's importance to your career, Nigeria or something) in the U.S during your visit (ensuring your explanation aligns with what is in your DS-2019, including the dates of participation).

- If it's not your first time visiting on a J1, I would suggest keeping a reasonable explanation handy to distinguish the current program/position from the former you travelled for (why you are going for the current one and perhaps how it all connects with your aspiration).

*Please, treat as just my suggestions. I am not an agent or some kind of expert. I am just also an applicant sharing from my experiences.

Wishing you the best.

Please, I've been stuck at this pre-approval request stage for F1 visa appointment in Lagos for over a week now. My resumption date is January 9th.

Any ideas what I can do to move the needle? I've sent emails and created tickets, to no avail.

When you say "It is now permissible to fill another DS 160 form" and take both to the interview...Can you please explain further? Because what this sounds like to me is that the embassy made an official statement about this. If you want to like share the source of this information that would be helpful. Thanks!

Sir, @OyoTunjiUSA, I made payments for myselfandmyson since the 29th October. The page hasn't changed. I have raised several tickets, no response. I have sent an email to an address I saw on this timeline, no response. The embassy telephone number seen also on this thread does not direct to a customer service agent, just automated responses.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
OyoTunjiUSA:

🤠

1. You have to wait for 24 hrs and receive the payment confirmation before you can proceed. It can be 48hrs at time. , and log out of AVITS twice in a day, the page will change for you to continue when they are ready. If by Friday nothing happens, then raise a ticket and call them next week.
