Hi Nairalanders, please, how do I go about my house roofing so that the carpenter won't cheat me on the Aluminum Sheets. He has given me the price per square meter for different levels of thickness such as 0.45, 0.50 and 0.55.

The issue now is, if I pay for 0.50, how will I be sure that he both 0.50 and not 0.45. Is it possible for me to visit the company together with him and then pay directly to the company's ?

Please I need your advice. Mods please help push this.

Get a micrometer screw guage and let him know you'll will be checking the guage before installation of the roofing sheets...

Next time, just pay the company selling the roofing sheets fot installation, that way you'll be saved from worrying about 'Kazeem' the carpenter.

You nailed it!

The Carpenters work with and for those Companies. If you insist on going with them to the company, they will communicate them before you guys would reach and they will play you the real mugu(the more you look, the less you see) before your very eyes but you can never notice it. Later, they will share the profit they made from you accordingly. In fact, they sometimes prefer you go with them, pay directly to the company and this makes the game smarter for them so you wouldn't say he collected your money and didn't pay all.

So for you not to be cheated, you must know measurements ooo! Else, be rest assured you will be parting with nothing less than 200k without any "Thank you"

In my own case, I had to take my time to learn the tricks from them without letting them know they were teaching me. When am satisfied I had learnt it, I bought a tape, climbed the building and measured the roof. Went to the company, met with the Manager and he helped me do the calculations proper after which I paid. When I called my carpenter to come and start the installation, he didn't believe his ears until he arrived the site and saw the sheets lying there. He got mad at me and called me all sorts of names for disappointing him because I saved above 200k as at August, 2020.

Go to any aluminum company of your choice, show them the Quotation, or you use the company for the roofing, company don't reduce the mm agreed, but engineer s and carpenters can reduce the mm to make profit,
It is always cheaper in Onitsha and Lagos

About a month ago,(precisely on October 2nd 2024) we needed some roofing sheet and cannot get the particular specification we needed, so i had to go and look for it. And i went to the company. We gave them our specifications, we made our payment and waited for 30mins production time.

For the 0.50 thickness we bought each metre for #11,000. We negotiated from 13500 and settled at #11,000.

I can help u organize it, or we can even go there together but u go pay me for my small effort.

I have video incase u no belive me.

The company is very close to ibadan. We could not get the specifications and thickness we wanted in Lagos.. we went with our company bus, so movement was not an issue.
