The Nigeria Immigration Service has announced the launch of a phased, less port renewal system, set to begin in Canada on November 1, 2024.

This new system allows Nigerians to renew their ports online, greatly reducing the need for in-person visits to NIS offices.

The NIS shared the announcement on Wednesday through a video posted on its official X (formerly Twitter).

Following the rollout in Canada, the service will expand to the United Kingdom, United States, and Italy on November 15, and by December 1, it will be available in Nigeria and other global locations.

“In its continued effort to serve the Nigerian public more efficiently and create a functional system that meets global standards, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a new less and issuance process starting from November 1st, 2024.

“Individuals will be able to apply to renew their international ports from the comfort of their homes without having to visit any NIS office,” it stated.

According to the NIS, the phased rollout is designed to enhance accessibility for Nigerians worldwide, allowing citizens to renew ports seamlessly from any location without visiting NIS offices.

The NIS stated that Nigerians will be able to renew their ports by ing the NIS mobile app—available on Google Play, the App Store, and the Windows Store—or by visiting its portal.

While the app is not yet available on Google Play or the App Store, the NIS noted that starting November 1, Nigerians in Canada are expected to access the app on these platforms and begin using the service

What's better is expedite service for ports. Get more revenue from people who are willing to pay more for faster service.

Wrong move. FG should get rid of dual citizenship. You cannot become a citizen of America, England or wherever and still maintain your Nigerian citizenship. If the U.S goes to war with Nigeria or another ECOWAS country, those folks abroad would have to fight for the U.S against their own brothers. So get rid of that.

Close all Nigerian embassies and consulates abroad. Anyone who needs Nigerian port renewal should be allowed to fly to Nigeria to get it done.

Every Nigerian based abroad should be made to remit 10% of their income as tax for the Nigerian government.

We need to to do everything in our power to stop people from traveling abroad otherwise we will have no country. If everyone runs abroad, who will fix the country? High time government does something drastic before it's too late.

This is a welcome development. The cost of flight, accommodation, and feeding is sometimes three or four times the cost of the port renewal in the US, unless you live in or close to the cities with consulates. How would they do data capturing though?

You are right @bolded. The drastic thing is for the government to fix Nigeria quickly, and everybody will come back. You don't need the people abroad to fix Nigeria.

You can also travel to Nigeria with an expired port and use some of that money you save instead of going to a US embassy to expedite it.

And you need to tear your Nigeria port and move to North Korea. Hopefully, they will not execute you.

Despite efforts by the HM to make port easier for Nigerians, some people are sabotaging this effort.

The new thing now is after doing everything online tou will be enlisted for capturing but when you get there, they will tell you your money didn't drop hence the need for servicom to rectify it.

Unfortunately, these could take months unless you give somebody rogar to do the needful. I discovered it was a deliberate act to frustrate one to seek the help of someone. If not, na Oyo you dey.

Ok that makes no sense. I cherish my Nigerian port like gold. It's blasphemy to even think about tearing it.

Great move!
I have been worried about boarding a seven hours flight to Moscow (from Yakutsk, Russia. World's coldest city) just to renew my port and now this man just solved my problem❤️💯💯💯

I don't think there's ever been an hardworking minister like this man. On this particular one, this istration has tried.

This buffoon does not realise that the people looting their treasury the most to settle their family abroad are the same politicians in power that he is appealing to restrict people from dual citizenship...mumu

No find your way better your future, you hear? .....remain there and be expecting people that are using your future generation to play baba ijebu to stop people from traveling abroad to better their future when the government of Nigeria care less about them or are clueless ...oponu
