The Northern Governors Forum has kicked against the proposed Tax Reform Bill that was forwarded to the National Assembly.

It stated that the proposed tax bill is against the interests of the North and other sub-nationals.

In a communique read by the chairman of the forum and Governor of Gombe state, Mohammed Yahaya, the governors frowned at the proposed amendment to the distribution of Value Added Tax (VAT) to Derivation-based Model.

The “Forum notes with dismay the content of the recent Tax Reform Bill that was forwarded to the National Assembly. The contents of the Blare against the interests of the North and other sub-nationals especially the proposed amendment to the distribution of Value Added Tax (VAT) to a Derivation-based Model”.

The forum therefore called on of the National Assembly to oppose the bill that can jeopardise the well-being of their people.

“This is because companies remit VAT using the location of their headquarters and tax office and not where the services and goods are consumed. In view of the foregoing, the Forum unanimously rejects the proposed Tax Amendments and calls on of the National Assembly to oppose any bill that can jeopardise the well-being of our people,” the governors said.

It also demanded equity and fairness in the implementation of all Federal Government programmes and policies.

The governors called for “equity and farness in the implementation of all national policies and programmes so as to ensure that no geopolitical zone is short-changed or marginalised”.

There should be exclusive list in the tax reforms.

Telecom can generate graphic of people usages in a particular states. From the stats they can remit the tax to the state.

Companies that have headquarters in a particular state should paid there tax to federal government which can then be shared by all states.

States that reject beer shouldn’t collect from the tax.

It’s even better to resolve the unworkable country we are only delaying the doomsday

Yorubas and northerners are the problem of Nigeria. They have very poor voting choices. Watch the people they have ed within the last 10 years. Buhari was a calamity and Tinubu is a cancer mixed with an overdose of tuberculosis and leprosy.

Nice argument, but why fight against sharing formular only and not also against taxing the citizens and companies to penury.

Why are northerners like this? You don't want beer to be sold in your States because to you, it is haram, but you want to collect tax derived from the same commodity you called haram.

You can't eat your cake and still have it.

If they can change the tax bills, remove subsidies, then they can change the current constitution. The current constitution is a bottleneck to development in Nigeria!

You want the proceeds of alcohol that you term haram?

Kano state destroys countless crates of beer, for example, but wants the tax collected from other states that consume it?

Is that fairness to you?

This is wayo how can taxes be paid in Lagos for good an services consumed in the North e.g bank, telecom, airline e.t.c VAT are paid by people as they purchase or consume a product because vat is inclusive in the product or service they purchased.

Fool so all the vat of products and services consumed in the North should be paid to Lagos including imports which goes to the North should be paid to lagos. Does that make sense to you
