Why will the grid not collapse multiple times when everything is collapsing in the country.
Grid collapse
Security collapse
Healthcare collapse
Infrastructure collapse
Governance collapse
People collapse

Do you know what you are talking about?
Do you work, or have worked in the power sector?
Or you believe whatever the govt says to you.

When you are ready, you may get the right people to participate in your discussion.

It's older and more powerful than fuel subsidy cabal so rest it.

Stop engaging a corruption infested fellow who calls right wrong and wrong right. Can't you see that he refuses to acknowledge the impact of corruption in the Nigerian society. Please forget them.

A country as big as Nigeria should not be relying on national grid for distribution to every state. Power stations should be decentralised such that each state can be independent of the other

Bro forget all this epistles, CORRUPTION remains the biggest issue here. Who vetted these figures they are churning out?

Corruption exists because the government owns or totally controls the electricity sector.

Good Luck to Nigeria

Summary:
Raise the price higher to the point that solar is cheaper and people just go and help themselves (as usual without depending on government).

Private sector without regulations would aim for maximum profit so they would find their highest value customers and provide for them alone. That's what I would do. Band A+ and Band A max...

The thing is, we need far more than the world bank loans to fix our grid and the power sector

We also need to deregulate the power sector properly by allowing the sector to charge market appropriate prices so that they can make enough of a profit to pay for improvements and expansion and maintenance issues.

We need to stop the practice of people using power for free be it a person who lives in face me face you or a person who lives in Aso Rock.

We have a bad power sector because the Nigerian government and people do not want to pay for 24 hours daily power. They both want power for free. But the sad thing is there is no free power

I strongly suggest that everyone googles for the PWC 2019 paper on the liquidity crisis in our power sector. It would make enlightened reading.

the report is here.

If you notice something about those countries most of them have one thing in common, they privatized power and allow power to be sold at market price.

I have already mentioned the example of Ivory coast, no 3 on your list, but to cut a long story short, they used to have blackouts 40 years ago. Today they do not, because they privatized power, allowed power to be sold at market price. In return the World bank was very very willing to help them with lots of investments and loans in their power sector.

Egypt has removed power subsides since 2014.

Nigeria has not done that.

It’s because we loan the money. If we generated it, politicians would have either stolen the funds or put in a little maintenance. Make una suffer dey go. Wise people switch to solar long ago.
DrMuzungu(m): 3:39pm On Oct 21, 2024
Why won't the grid (or anything else, for that matter) collapse when 90% (if not even 99.9%) of the money taken as loans ends up in pockets of few?

you're a big fool. Aren't people already generating their own power with generators. Do you know what its costing them .they already increase prices to 1000 for 4 units more than most countries with 24/7.

Their ripping you off and gaslighting you and you clap for them.

The cost of power for 80% of Nigeria is below N100 per kwh.

Calm down .

The thieves say they want to charge you the price that people who import gas from Russia charge, at international rate (so their children can waste the subsidy money in Europe) some are here defending them.

Currently solar is cheaper than NEPA just the set-up is expensive... And currently with the so called grid collapse, if your governor needs light urgently right now, he can pay through the back door and the state would get power right now (despite the collapse).

What have we gained for being a citizen of an oil producing nation where they flare gas?

What I wrote earlier was to point out how ridiculous that defenders POV is and where they are really heading to.

80% indeed. Why not show me your units let me see how you're paying less than N100. slowpoke
