Former Super Eagles defender, Mobi Oparaku, is confident that the Confederation of African Football, CAF, will not sanction Nigeria over the cancelled 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.

The Group D second leg clash was called off by CAF following the Eagles’ ordeal.

Libyan authorities diverted Nigeria’s flight to a remote airport, where they were denied food, water and Internet for over 18 hours.

Following the incident, the Super Eagles players decided not to go ahead with the game.

CAF eventually delisted the fixture and forwarded the matter to its disciplinary body.

While the verdict of the disciplinary body is still being expected, Oparaku is confident that Nigeria will not be sanctioned because the country has always been a good host to visiting teams.

“CAF knows we are not what is reported by the Libyans, we are not biased, we never maltreat our visitors, CAF knows we can’t do such,” he told Brila FM.

“I am confident no sanction will fall on Nigeria, I believe we will get a fair outcome.”

Despite not playing their matchday 4 fixture, Nigeria top the group with seven points, while Libya are bottom with just one point.

Absolutely!

Besides, CAF has a lot to lose if they take a stand against Nigeria btw. Libya offers them nothing. They offer nothing to African football. So it's only reasonable that they would be fair to us and do things right!

They have no reason to be unfair in the face of the overwhelming evidence with us.

Mainstream media networks like ESPN, CNN, BBC have reported on this and every studio analyst said Libya went too far! CAF south african president better not try any rubbish, the wolrd is watching. We don't want any free 3 points, we want a rematch on a neutral venue. Libya deserves to be banned from playing any home match in their country till further notice.

This is how corruption start. Don't go that way.

I believe we will not be sanctioned base on the evidence we are holding against LFF not on what you stated above

African man and power should be separated
Caf isn’t losing anything if they stand against Nigerian, the only thing here is we’re on the right

If CAF sanctions Nigeria, NFF should take their case to FIFA and CAS. What Libya did is unthinkable.

Except if caf is wicked they will want to punish us.
If caf sanctions us and leave Libya alone every African country will be demonstrating the Libya treatment to their opponents when they come visiting for CAF afcon qualifiers

The Current African Player of the Year is Nigerian.
Two of the Three Finalist for this year are Nigerians. The likely winner is Ademola Lookman, a Nigerian.
Nigeria offers so much to CAF.

They will surely sanction Nigeria for going to the country and refusing to play, if not tomorrow others will do same, the best would have been to play them complain later for Libya to be sanctioned.

Libya has never qualified and has never won any tournament in Africa so what is their problem?

Is Cameroon (the first african country to qualify for world cup quarter finals) a joke to you?

You are talking balderdash. Play what match? In that state of anguish and exhaustion? Common sense should tell you that they would have lose that match. Even CAF knows this.

We'll know who deserves a sanction & to what degree, after CAF has concluded investigations into the matter.

At the end, CAF will likely organise a replay in a neutral venue.

Not just the likelihood of loss but perchance they win, how many of them will come out of that pitch alive.

Extremist are mostly irrational in their thoughts and actions.

When they sat down to plan all this evil, they didn't anticipate any consequences.. they are nothing but all dingbats
