The precinct of the National Assembly appears like a warzone this morning as men ofthe Department of State Security(DSS) have taken over amidst speculations of an impeachment move against Sen. Akpabio.

Operatives of the DSS have taken control of the National Assembly amid allegations of a potential impeachment threat against Senate President, Goodswill Akpabio.

Speculations have swirled that some aggrieved Northern Senators,(allegedly dissatisfied with President Bola Tinubu, are reportedly reviving an earlier attempt to remove Akpabio from office.

Globally, Parliaments have dedicated internal security personnel responsible for maintaining order and safety within and around the premises of Parliament.

Other security agencies attached to these Parliaments are present to ensure the safety of lives and property in the event of any security breach or threats that might disrupt the proceedings of lawmakers and staff, particularly when internal security is overwhelmed.

OrderPaper observed this morning that from the main entrance to the second gate and all entrances within the premises, DSS men and women dressed in dark-colored suits, wearing intimidating dark shades have been stationed.

That's not an easy figure to come by particularly if the President s the Senate President.

If you are a President that is carrying out unpopular reforms, you need a staunch loyalist as Senate President.

There's no question that without Akpabio in position, many of Mr Tinubu's reforms will have run aground somewhere in the national assembly.

Unless the President has had enough of Mr Akpabio's long list of gaffes, the Senate President is going no where.

They actually don't have the numbers because if the entire Southern senators backs Akpabio and he also get a good number from the North Central States of Benue, Plateau, Kogi etc, the combined numbers from the North East and the North West would be in the minority.

Though Akpabio deserves to be impeached.

Many senators will prioritise their own personal interest. If the northern plotters promise juicy committees to some Southern senators, they will accept and dump Mr Akpabio.

Same applies to Northern senators. Those who are ambitious and are looking to return to the Senate in 2027, or want to contest for Governorship in their state will follow what their state Governor tells them.

Also, a discreet Presidential giveaway can turn even the most ardent plotter into a loyalist overnight. You will be surprised by how the promise of 4 plots of land in Maitama or another high brow area of Abuja can reset some Senators brain . How does this sound - 'Distinguished Senator, I have the pleasure of also offering you the option of 2 plots at Eko Atlantic.'

So removing Mr Akpabio is going to be more than just a North vs South affair even if the plotters are led by northern Senators.
