Seeing how average Joe's are ramping up fear regarding the CNG initiative, you'd think that by now FG would have recruited professionals in the field to redirect and lead the conversation on the CNG initiative (that's assuming it's indeed what they're marketing it to be).

Maybe even have some cars on the presidential fleet converted to run on CNG, but they've allowed 1K per post influencers lead the conversation, and it's predictably getting pushback from a public that has every right to be suspect.

I'm not sure what people expected from a candidate that licked mic sha, it was funny to see during campaign season, and sad that we're being lead through this incredibly tough period by a packaged crook that's past his best physically and cognitively.

The whole thing dey always burst my head looking back and reflecting on that period.

The thing smells like a cheap way of having more persons perform the job of policing.

Sure, more like an ission on the part of government that police are not capable enough to discharge their policing duty. More like they are subcontracting the job to FRSC like they did to NSCDC earlier. And when that happens, they will definitely go rogue too

Someone asked a very good question on X/twitter if CNG is all that and supposedly the 'cheaper' option why haven't we seen a global adoption of it or at the very least in Africa?

GloriousGbola:

Tpain has knocked off import duty on cng and ev related materials. Or maybe it is vat. I have forgotten.

People are actually working on this. And let me tell you, if you are worried about cng then you should be frightened about electic vehicles. And their lithium batteries.

Even in the west they have not figured out how to tackle lithium battery fires. They literally have to let them burn out over days. And lithium is subject to a phenomenon called thermal runway which we saw very well with those Samsung 9s.

By the time they combine policing and its accompanying perks, they'd abandon their core responsibilities.

I'm sure there are still several aspects of their core responsibilities they're yet to touch on, which if they even do the way they should would be more effective in combating crime than just throwing guns in their hands.

Very soon u will see road safety patrol vehicles/escort running people off the road in traffic. If u don't give them chance they will break ur mirror with the butt of their gun.

The house of assembly that is giving the bill hearing definitely didn't think deeply about the far reaching implication of handing them guns

because governments have to drive policy for adoption

tesla would have died if the obama istration did not give them a subsidy
solar power in china is thriving - but it is also driven by heavy govt subsidies
mobile telephony was available as far back as the abacha years - but until obj liberalised telecomms it did not debut in nigeria

the petrol subsidy has led to dependency on petrol as the soul or key source of energy.
diesel if better than petrol for heavy loads. i had resolved years ago that if nigeria did a full deregulation, i would start using diesel generators, because the numbers would no longer make sense

right now i have a client building a station. we have bought disele gen of 15kva. we were going to buy petrol gen of 8kva to 10kva. i am now telling the man to hold on - if petrol is at over 1000/litre, a petrol generator no longer makes financial sense

also, any new technology, even if cheaper or better is competing against already entrenched technology that the owners have invested in

iridium is a company that invested heavily in satelitte phones. they was a already a big market and it was going to get bigger. then GSM came along and killed their market. if iridium had been a larger company, or more entrenched, they may have tried to kill GSM through lobbying or FUD or smear campaigns

most importantly, as i have said previously, we cannot look to first world countries for solutions to third world problems.

they know they will not be at the receiving end of the antic of already out of control operatives

90% of the time, all every last one of those agencies does is use guns to bully and intimidate civilians. because bullying seems to be a default setting for black people. i have small power and the next thing is to start looking for who to oppress

But this explanation didn't answer the question.

The question is : " If CNG as a source of fuel is acclaimed to be cheaper all over the world, why is it that different countries (both third world countries and first world countries) are not adopting CNG powered vehicles enmasse"

i have already answered this

the governments have to drive it

it is the FG driving CNG , just as teh FG drove GSM adoption

nigeria has abundant reserves of natural gas. so we already have the source. we do not have to import. we have been flaring natural gas for decades. literally burning energy

i do not have the numbers but it is also likely that natural gas costs much less to process vs refining petrol.

on paper, EVs are better than ICE vehciles

but it is governments that are saying by 2025 ICE vehicles must be phased out.

you actually know all this because you work in a corporate environment. every once in a while there is a migration to a system that is better and more advanced and there will always be resistance and arguments, and it is the oga at the top that has to push it.

it is the same way you see ASUU complaining about having their salaries managed by oracle erp. we have been doing it before, why are you bringing this system that no one else is using?

The part in bold is why I specifically asked why Africa isn't leading in this adoption process if the economics of it make better sense.

In addition if the FG wants more people to get onboard the CNG proposal leading stories by a example would help. Ministers, govt officials converting their vehicles to CNG fuel even if performative would help.

https://naija102.com/president-tinubu-don-mandate-procurement-of-cng-powered-vehicles-for-government-use/

the federal government has been doing this

the govt is also procuring EVs for parastatals - though that is a story for another day

also, the other african governments do not have an economic crisis that is largely due to a no longer viable subsidy on petrol.
it appears the true price of petrol is over n1000 litre.

This sounds somehow.

For example, the GSM example u gave, several countries had adopted GSM long before Nigerian government decided to drive its adoption. In fact, it is it's suceess in those countries that drove Nigeria to adopt same.

You see these are the questions the government must provide convincing answers to if they want the buying-in of the people as far as this CNG conversion matter is concerned.

The bold is my own major concern too. I always wonder how other people are surviving . I literally ghost some acquaintances simply because I know the moment u ask about their well being , when they tell u exactly how they are something must drop from ur hand. Even though I feel guilty about not checking up on them ,there’s not much I can do because I also have my own responsibilities.

When u see wife doing teaching job in private school where they don’t pay above 70k and husband working in a company where he earns 150k, u begin to wonder how they will manage 220k combined family income to spend on feeding for 30 days, NEPA bill, make provision for annual house rent , cater for the needs of 2 kids etc.

Have you heard of drug mix? I just recently heard it as well.

When people fall sick these days, they go to the chemist and buy mix.

Two tablets of paracetamol, one tablet of antibiotics and one tablet of antimalaria.

After two or three days when they get some more money, they visit again to buy another mix. Chai

My friend in Abeokuta told me they no longer cook with gas

I asked what they use, he said charcoal stove. I said but you still have to buy the charcoal which is now expensive. He said I should be playing. That they get wood from bushes and make their own charcoal grin

My brother, this kind hardship, I never see before

Damn! This is my first time of hearing this o.

Hmmmm...That means people working and have access to HMO don't know that they are enjoying o. A friend of mine got a job recently with slightly higher pay that where he works currently but he rejected the offer because the new work place don't have HMO.

His rejection was premised on the fact that his wife is pregnant and will be due for delivery. His current HMO covers cost of delivery which will definitely put a hole in his pocket if he were to pay from out of pocket. Now I understand his decision to reject the new job made much sense considering he's even due for promotion and increased pay this year.

But this one people are now cooking with firewood and charcoal, are we not going back to Abacha era type of hardship?

this may not be a proper analogy

my generator was 4 years old. when i put it on lpg, it was burning oil, and a cylinder would not last 10 hours. now with a new engine, it is not burning oil and a cylinder is going for like 18 hours plus.

i suspect the real issue is that so many cars have already been fked by mechanics with multiple tolerances adjusted. the conventional wisdom was change your car every 4 years, not because of age per se, but because the more mecanic touch am, the more fked the engine is. that may be the root issue, tweaking an already fked car engine

If you have the time and watch the video nezzjnr shared, those with engine issues reported that the engine got worse after conversion. Infact, one had to change the engine. Said its been working perfectly since he changed it.

So those with vehicles with engine problems even if minor will be better advised to avoid CNG conversion.

to this day credit cards are widely used in the Us despite debit cards being much more secure

I did, but didn't get much from the search.

Most of the people commenting were talking about the US and the major reason they gave why CNG cars are not popular in the US are:

1. PMS is cheap in the US, so the difference in price between PMS & CNG is about 60 cents
2. The few CNG stations available in different locality in the US
3. Compressed gas is explosive.

You are delibrately missing the point.

GSM was adopted in Nigeria in the early 2000's with Econet commencing operations in 2001. However, GSM had been widely adopted all over Europe since the 90's.

It was the ease of communication that and all the advantages GSM had over other forms of communication that made Nigerian government adopt it. That is a valid reason for its adoption.

Now the question is Why is it that CNG is not widely adopted all over the world but Nigerian government is telling us to switch to CNG? They need to provide a convincing answer to that to inspire confidence.

Also, it won't be bad if government lead by example by converting government official vehicles to CNG since we are all affected by the hike in PMS price and we all need to switch to a cheaper source of fuel for motor vehicles.
