This thread is created to just encourage youths, if you are going through a lot, u are not a lot, we plenty for the country.
Earlier this year I created a topic on the motorcycle I bought with my NYSC savings, so I won't be stranded after NYSC. The journey has not been easy, showing up everyday consistently with the urge to give up yet too determined to succeed.
Unpleasant words from friends and family that are too embarrassed with me driving motorcycle, constant bully and extortion from tax force and agbero has been my major problem.
Nigeria is not for the weak.

I learned how to drive the motorcycle, at first it wasn't easy at all, but man no get option, if I had super powers, I would just learn it in a day.
Anyways I still entered road after learning the basics and balancing the bike, this was the beginning of reality, some days I won't make much money and the bike will have issues due to bad roads in Abia state(the state I served), it was so bad that sometimes heavy vehicles will fall and cover the road, I will end up fixing my bike from the little I saved. I wasn't saving much, I had to travel back to my village and decide to drive there since we have better roads... Typing

I touched down my village on one faithful day, at least sometimes I will eat mommy thank you and won't be worried about house rent.

The next day I carried my bike out, I already know the roads so it wasn't a problem.

2days after, tax force stopped me, I didn't have their vest, I didn't buy local govt sticker and I didn't buy ticket, with abeg and so much explanation on how I started this bike new and this is my second day, they took 2k from me, and that was even because thy knew me.
I quickly got their vest and ed it, thankfully the union chairman is a friend to my father, he guide me through the process and I got everything for 16k.
Speaking of dad, my father was embarrassed that I am driving motorcycle, my elder brother told me I am disgracing the family lolz, my younger brother threatened to burn down the motorcycle cos he is ashamed of his graduate brother driving motorcycle. Na wa o, I for just stay for Abia state, than coming to my state and get threatened by my own family. grin . All those mother's that use me as a good example to their children and those people that respected me sef just weak for me, I wonder how they will explain to their children now lol.
My mom and my elder sister were the only ones that encouraged me, and I had to encourage myself too and had always convinced myself this is not what I will do, it's just the begining of the journey.

Below is the picture of my vest.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, I was able to save some money and decided to get a another second hand motorcycle which I'll give out for hire purchase while still driving my first bike.
But my Dad suggested I should pick up a masters programme form, at first going back to school was not part of my plans, at least not now. But he agreed to assist me in the schooling, so I went to uniport and picked a form in ing, cos I needed the analytical and management knowledge, even though I have ruled out the possibilities of getting a job, the ing skill will help me manage my own business and companies in the future, so I had to pick the form, since I didn't study ing in my first degree, I had to pick PGD form and will continue my business while still acquiring knowledge, I might not create another thread for now until I finish my schooling and probably have a solid business that thrives on a system.
I know it won't be easy but it's not impossible

Your dad be thinking like 'instead of this boy I used to brag in the village as a brilliant graduate to be disgracing me with this Okada let me sponsor him to go and do his Master's degree'
Riding Okada in your village with their uniform will discourage some parents who hitherto used you as example from sending their kids to the university, you for remain for Abia state and use it as stopgap for your plans. This is not to discourage you

unfortunately, the money and profit he's gaining from the okada business is much more than whatever amount your organization pays him. Daily business is the key and he's financially free and you wouldn't expect him to leave his freedom to go become a slave of 9-5.

My greatest regret is not knowing how to ride an auto bike

Well done OP, this is just a phase , enjoy it , you’ll make a lot of money if you manage this business well

Now that you are no longer in direct control of the Okada business, please sell the bike to avoid depreciation and it would be worth even less.

Nothing wrong riding a bike while you keep your head out for other opportunities. You might be lucky to land a good job with your first degree. Don't limit yourself to that village riding bike alone. It's good you're moving to PH. Try as many other things you can.

Good luck!

It's not any parents' joy seeing their kid coming back from school as a graduate to ride a 'bike'.

The skill you are building with that kinda mindset is what will set you apart. It is just a matter of time. Majority of Nigerians are dumb and always quick to talk one down. They forget that the most important thing is you putting food on a table without being a nuisance to anybody. When you sit at home or start masters to beg them for a lil , they tag you a useless person. I go with my instinct while trusting God cos I know majority of Nigerians are mentally deranged as a result of too much suffering and smiling.

Our education in Nigeria is a waste I swear. There is nothing wrong with riding a bike in as much as you are meeting needs of people and making money. I know someone who built a storey building with bike riding alone while our graduates are earning 80k while spending 40k on transportation per month.

OP kudos to you and I will be following you from today to watch your progress.

I love this kind of story and the sole purpose of education is to acquire problem solving skills to succeed in the real society. Most graduates of today have zero problems solving skills and it is very sad.

Always bear that in mind.
Okada riding first, you save money and buy more okadas, then you give out on hire purchase and become a business man, next you can incorporate a business involving deliveries with okadas to restaurants and next, you can partner with an IT programmer for an Okada IT start-up that involves deliveries.

When I walk through the the streets of Lagos, I see oppoturnities for millions of Naira everywhere, myriads of problems to solve and make money.

As long as you're not stealing or getting involved in any crime... I don't care how it's going... All I can say is may God bless your hustle and come through for you always.... Amen
