Barnsley’s coach Darell Clarke on Nwakali

" Kelechi is a mile off right now, he needs to do what I’ve told him—get fitter, more high-speed distance running. It’s nothing I haven’t already said to him.” “He needs to improve in all areas, but we also understand he’s adapting to the English game and we’ll keep working with him"

It's one thing to be critical of someone, I had always been of Nwakali. It's another thing to feel pity for him, now I do.

This pity is drawn from what seems to be his inadequacies or deficiencies. I just pray the poor boy's contract is not terminated. I pray whatever other businesses he has invested in will make a difference in his life.

This manager is giving hints as to why Nwakali isn't fit enough for him to play. He also has his job to protect. Except he gets fired and the next manager might play Nwakali

he is too weak for men’s football. Hv had the opportunity to watch him play many times, Yes the talent and footballing intelligence is there but strength and agility is very poor for a midfield player of this era

I pray he works hard to maximize this opportunity cus after this I doubt any reasonable club in top European leagues will even look his way

Imagine a player like Onyeka after the burn out he had at the last afcon coupled with playing few mins for Brentford last season and in the beginning of this new season moved to this summer and went straight into Augsburg’s starting 11

I some wanted him to bulk up during his time at Arsenal. I dunno. I dunno. Nobody deserves to go through all this anyway. I once watched a recovery routine for Onyeka and co. With all that build yet e dey affect them. How much more when you no dey bulked up or fast. Infact he should be faster as he's slim.

Well well.

Bro is just not just wired for men’s football

I understand that pple in general face difficulties and set back in life but for a professional to struggle to fit into a club in English 3rd tier? 😳

Sir Nwakali had enough playing time last season at Chaves where he started more than half of his team’s games so If he had been clubless for a season or two it would hv been understandable. He was only out of Chaves team few games to the end of the season after falling out with the coaching crew

Nwakali hv always been a weak/frail player and for a midfielder in this era where physicality and agility are more embraced he needs to start working to improve those aspect of his game to make it in Barnsley

English lower leagues are very physical demanding so he needs to shape up to fit in

I hope Nwakali has saved up enough money from his football stint enough to start a business or fund himself into another career path, cause it seems he's not taking his football career serious anymore. If you are struggling to find your feet in a league 3 club, then it is really BAD.

Nice post but I think the problem falls on Kelechi Nwakali's management team. Did they review the coach tactical philosophy before shipping him to Clarke.

Imagine telling a player like Busquets to do high speed long-distance running. That has never been Kelechi Nwakali's style.

Kelechi Nwakali needs to play with a master of the possession game to get the best of him.

I hope this works out, if not he should jump ship fast.

When Pep Guardiola was coaching Barcelona B, he was not satisfied with his midfield and went to watch the 3rd division team to search for a midfielder.

Tito, his then assistant coach drew his attention to Busquets, who was playing as a defender. Tito criticized how weak Busquets looked. He also pointed out that Busquets was slow and a bad defender.

However, Guardiola pointed out that Busquets was intelligent and could weave out of pressure when he had it, hardly losing the ball.

He promoted Busquets to the B team of Barca, changed his position to a controlling deep midfielder and the rest was history. One of the best defensive midfielders of all time.

Even though I don't modern way of play in football, we have to tell ourselves the truth, since running round the pitch like headless chickens is what's expected of modern footballers, Nwakali should train himself for such.

This season, some youngsters in Barcelona like Marc Bernal, Cassado and their likes who are naturally like Busquets in playing style adds physicality to their games.

Nwakali is not Modric that should be exempted from his team style of play.

If he is not ready or strong enough to play the modern game, he should retire or go to any obscure league anywhere in the world.

And concerning Nwakali management, you expected them to tell him not to Barnsley because the coach style might not suit him when the same Nwakali has always found it hard to get any decent club in Europe?

It's high time we tell ourselves the truth, Nwakali is not just good enough... Yeah, he might have some level of talent but there is no aspect of life where talent takes someone to the top 100%.

In of the same talent, he wasn't as talents as Rabiu Ibrahim or even Lukman Haruna, so make he go sleep

What I am pointing out is that Barnsley's coach is more old school and drawn to the strength and running game. Not like a modern coach that would love intelligence and it is affecting Kelechi Nwakali.

If I am to advise Kelechi Nwakali, I will say he still falls in line with the coach philosophy. Improving in any area will still make him a better player.

I hope Kelechi Nwakali starts a running program. Make it a daily routine. Starts running slowly and build up his speed.

First of all, the modern game is less running around like a headless chicken. That is why the likes of Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Thiago Alcantara, Gundogan, Jorginho, Xhaka etc could flourish.

The work rate comes when they lose the ball and even then, organization and team work is key.

Clarke likely is more in tune with the old way of doing things, that is why you can see the term fit into the English game.

Kelechi Nwakali can succeed in the game but he needs to work towards getting managers that suit him.

Look at Suarez playing for Ajax, Liverpool and Barcelona. Teams that have a history of the ing game. Nigerian players need to study coaches tactics before transfer. It can ruin careers. It is not about rushing to get a club.

I hope you watched Villareal vs Barcelona last week?
So many times, Pepe who plays as an attacker was seeing running back to help his team defend.
I think it's the olden players that weren't running like headless chickens, that's why you would always see the Xavi, Iniesta, even the same Busquets you mentioned manning their posts without going to become strikers or defenders from their midfield

What is the headless?

That is when you understand. It is less thought.

Describing players running to defend is not headless.

Understand the concept.

Also, to defend in the modern game, you can achieve a lot with play reading than just running. Watch how many times you see Manuel Akanji running back to defend. That is because of his exceptional positioning.

Match reading and watching movement of his teammates. Kelechi Nwakali does this in a flash. Almost without thinking. He reads and scans the pitch and knows the best place to send the ball.
