Okay…I will try to keep this as short as possible.😂
So some emergency expenses came up at some point in early 2023 that I had to take out a loan of about N110K to pay back over N180K (from three loan apps I normally use). I was still on a N100K salary then, but here's where it got really funny: I lost my job just a week after!
I thought I still had everything under control until it was due date and I still had no tangible source of income apart from the little 3k, 5k, etc., I was getting from some content writing opportunities I got from the Jobs section here.
In order to meet up the high interest, I decided to take loans from more apps and try to at least pay up a little to reduce the calls. This was where I got it wrong. I ended up u to five different loan apps to generate about 48K (to pay back almost double in interest) all this just to try and clear the original loan oh.😢
It got to a point where all the loans were due (with interests counting) and the only thing left at that point was for my phone to explode with insults and calls. Had to get a new SIM and also take some physical loans to try and balance things.
Few months down the line, I was in debt of almost N400K (was about N389k).
It got so serious that some friends and relatives even reached out and were like what's up with you and all these loan people na…Na wah oh?🧐🤨 Shame wan finish me. Me when no dey like make them table my matter.😬😓
Though my family was concerned, everyone still maintained OYO things when it came to providing a real way forward.
Even my girl suddenly started calling me by my name. No more babe (first sign that a breakup was underway 😆). Story short; she ghosted me a few weeks down the line and told me she needed space even after telling her to stay calm and that things will fall back in place. She was like; it's not you or anything. I said I need space for myself.🤡
Let me just cut the story of the trauma and depression I went through during this whole loan period.
Fast-forward to December 2023, I decided to give Upwork a try so I could sell my skills (Video Editing & 2D Art/Animation). Already had an but thought it was almost impossible to really earn anything as a Nigerian.
Still encountered so many hurdles on the platform but somehow randomly landed my first gig which was a ridiculously low-priced gig with less than 5 proposals on the job market. Probably why they gave me a chance.
I couldn't even complete the full package. Delivered half of the job and got half the already-small pay ($10). But here's the thing, I luckily got a 5-star review from him, and things started moving forward slowly.
About two more gigs later, the fourth client I met on Upwork led me to Discord (this was around mid-march this year), and there on his private server, I came across a certain guy who was interested in hiring me outside Upwork. Seemed like a joke but I later found out he was a very big Italian YouTuber in the Animation/Paint Art niche (names withheld for privacy reasons).
Man just randomly made me a part of his team. I started working remotely and earning heavy sums I used to only hear about (thanks to the exchange rate of the Tinubu era…😂)
After receiving my first paycheck, I cleared each and every loan I ever took, got myself a new setup for easier work, saved some and then of course, used some to regain myself from the struggles of the past year. E no easy! Man I slept like a baby on the first night. grin
Been working for four months now, and I now look back and laugh at some funny experiences I couldn't even explain here.
So guys. That is how God saved me from loan sharks.
I don't normally create posts here, I just come once in a while to read and laugh. But I decided to share this testimony with y'all.
Peace and I'm out…✌️❣️

N/B: Please avoid loan sharks at all costs. In fact anything loan eh, be careful.

So, there's no need to be ashamed of it...Na debt we owe,we no kill person angry. But so long we're still hustling, we're gonna pay Dem back someday cheesy

But then again,op,how can I learn that skill of yours for free?🤔. Talk to a brother here,man..

Nah bro. That's a closed chapter.✖️ The last couple of messages I sent to her were left on read. Just ticked blue like that on WhatsApp with two unanswered calls. Seems she even filtered me out of her WhatsApp status updates. Maybe she found a guy she believes is more stable financially or something. Can't tell. All I know is, that's a closed chapter.
How can a girl who is almost 24 be so easily influenced by her friends up to the point that she hardly makes decisions on her own!!
Don't know if she came up with this dumb idea herself this time or her friends pushed her into it as usual.
There was just this feeling I always had that her friends used to ridicule me behind my back (their body language told me this). And it must have been from what she was feeding them because they didn't know that much about me.
One thing is, I'm a low-key guy, so it would still take some time for them to even see some real signs.
I'm just now more focused on trying to create other income streams to solidify myself first.
Not like I was asking anything from her or not like it was written on my forehead that I was a debtor. Just be there for me at least.
It was just a case of me losing my 9-5 and having to battle through the sudden breakage of income flow at such a wrong time while also in huge debts.

Exactly…Almost everyone is a victim of loan sharks in Naija at this point in time (just at different degrees).
And I wonder why they allow these people to put up ads everywhere with their ridiculous interest rates.
It seems if you encounter the wrong app, they even share your number with other loan apps or something. Because at some point, I was getting constant messages on my WhatsApp from different apps with different offers all asking me to their app and take loans.
I used to always ask them how they got my number but none could really give a straight-forward explanation.
There is no insult you won't receive for missing payment deadlines by even just a single day…😂
I've attached one of the messages I received from one of these random apps below. I took a screenshot of it immediately they sent it to me because I found it too sad and funny at the same time. That should be the only one of the weird messages I still have...😂😆

I'm actually not an expert on these Upwork stuffs though. I will just say I got lucky. Because for sure I know how difficult it can be to navigate that platform properly when there are thousands of people offering the same services as you do, and a thousand others even above your experience level.
Just that when you come across the right opportunity, you'll know it's for you.

Maybe something that gave me an advantage was the fact that I always started my cover letters with action phrases (Hey! Watch some similar videos I have worked on below, etc.), and then I indicate interest in making a free 30-seconds sample work for them to confirm my expertise (if it is a video) before I then proceed to introduce myself and do the normal cover letter stuffs.
It is applicable to any niche...But again, I can't tell for sure if this was what did the magic. Just my own theory.
Wish you good luck on Upwork bro!💪✔️

Congratulations, bro; this is what I encourage many Nigerian youths to do. There are lots of opportunities online, given the worthless value of our naira, earning what foreigners regard as peanuts can be a huge sum when converted to our worthless currency. I had to quit my job earlier this year to focus fully on my value betting scheme. To my utmost surprise, I have made profits worth my 5 years salary in just 5 months, even with my meager $18 stakes, all thanks to our worthless currency.
The bottom line is to learn a skill, perfect your skill, sell your skill to the world, and receive your rewards in foreign currencies. A focused mind can achieve these in at most 2 years.

More often than not, God uses challenges to drive us through the path we are intended to take and remove unwanted encumbrances. If all was well and fair with you, you may not have towed this path and your ex may have stayed. Thank God those days are over. Do well to save up cash heavily nd create an alternative source(s) of income.

You are just lucky and being ignorant about your gambling situation is not something I wish to understand.

Create a thread and let's do 5 days rollover and see how far you go before you blow the .

An employed skill will always generate positive revenue unlike your 'skill' that only makes money sometimes.

You can prove me wrong though.

See your displaying your ignorance, on a topic you know nothing about? Your writeup perfectly describes how an the average sports bettor thinks. Imagine you doing a rollover? funny you. Can your please Google what "value betting" means? You think betting is all about doing give away, with your money to bet9ja and co? You require skill to make money from it bro. Don't worry as time goes on, I will create a thread to educate ignorant folks like you. I don't make money sometimes from betting. I am more scared of loosing my betting s, than loosing my money.
