Living In The USA - Life Of An Immigrant Part 1 (154452 Views)
DWJourney: 5:17am On Aug 25, 2024 |
Hello everyone, the veterans! Please, my immigrant visa is approved and I am here to seek guidance on life generally in the US, especially how to make a decent income based on my educational background. I'm in the Environmental sector with a handful of experience in waste recycling and facilities management. Is there anyone here that has made a good career in the Environmental science sector? Do I need to do any sort of certification to land a good job in this sector? I see people talk a lot about either being in IT or Nursing to make a good money in the US, are these the only areas someone can thrive? I am also open to any beginners friendly business that can bring in money, your suggestion will be appreciated. The USA they say is the land of opportunity and I believe that will be for people with rightful information. Please, I would appreciate it if people here can attend to my questions and give me a lead. Please bear with me if my writeup is not well put, I'm new here. Thanks to everyone in advance. 3 Likes |

DWJourney: Get your certificates of education and take them with you. Try to also get you student copy of you transcript if you can. Some jobs would need your foreign credentials evaluated so you might need the original with you. For your work experience please identify those who would this experience when you need a reference. Now about your career choice. Use you free time to research your sector and what career options are in your state. That's the state you are going to live in. Civil service is a good place to start. Most states would have an agency responsible for waste collection and management. Also look for companies doing environmental protection eg.waste cleanup, testing of effluent Use LinkedIn and follow organisations in your field especially if they have presence in your state. Look online for tools to rewrite your CV in away that's more acceptable in the US. Consider removing references to location of your previous jobs in the description eg. Say you worked with Gtbank ..no need to put Nigeria or Abuja. I say this because if this may count against you don't want it there. You can always answer location in interviews. Lastly in the area where you live you might want to look into community colleges or universities that have certificate or short term courses in your field. US based education maybe give you an edge. I'd also add that you can start with recruitment agencies in your area..they usually have contract jobs which are short term and can give you a foot in the door for US experience. One more thing, it can take awhile so have a lot of patience to continue your career. Whilst you wait find regular jobs that can put food on your table . In experiences I know it took some minimum of 54 applications to land a job in their career others more like 150 and some of these people did Masters in the US. 7 Likes |

Good day, pls don't read and your advice would be of great help on this matter. The father to my sister's husband lived and died in the US, he was a citizen . However, due to family intrusion(father's family didn't want their son to marry my inlaw mother) my sister's husband was born outside wedlock, so the dad didn't make any move to help his son relocate because of so many family problems, little communication My in-laws father was married to an American woman who is still living in the US, she is a direct opposite of her husband towards my inlaw. The question now is what are his chances of being able to relocate to the US, can he get a green card as a child of a dead citizen( my in-laws father was buried in the US). Pls we need clarifications, pls don't read and , help! |

fluffydec12: No, his Dad is late. He is also an adult now. There is nothing he can do to get citizenship through his late Dad. There are other pathways to get to the US. e.g student 2 Likes |

fluffydec12: Try Google and talk to immigration lawyers. I think it is possible iff the married the step mother before the son was 18. |

Taal17: His dad used to come to Nigeria with his wife and their only daughter, tho the dad has other children in the US. As the first son, his father's properties here in Nigeria was transferred to him by inheritance. He has a good report with his black American step mum, but how does he leverage on the good communication he has with the step mum |

DWJourney: Do a WES course by course evaluation. Most companies will require an evaluated copy of your educational credentials and some schools will require it to if you decide to start a new program here. 2 Likes |

Hello everyone, hope you’re having a good day. I recently arrived in the U.S. on a K1 visa and can’t work legally at the moment. Does anyone know of any job opportunities, possibly under-the-table work? I’m currently in Virginia. I would greatly appreciate any help or leads. Thank you!

The nearby airport to Rosemary Beach, Florida, is Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (E), which is about a 30-minute drive away. It’s located in Panama City Beach and offers a range of domestic flights. For more options, you might also consider Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS), which is about an hour's drive from Rosemary Beach.

Remvibes: There's a K1 thread you can share there. Other K1 applicants can share. I'd also you do the marriage as quickly as possible. Just book at the court house quickly so you submit your paperwork asap. That will let you work officially asap 3 Likes 1 Share |

Tolu2024: An invitation letter doesn’t do much. Work visas from outside the US may be possible to get but I understand they are difficult too. Typically, you’d need a job offer from a US employer who’s qualified to and interested in filing for you. Also, depending on your qualifications and experience, you can also self petition for some classes of visas that allow you work in the US. The easiest would be to get an L1 visa if you currently work with an employer with an office in the US. If not, you can look into getting a student visa and exploring your options. 3 Likes |
