That nonsense policy will not stand. It's a war against Southerners who value education.

This should be the dumbest policy of this istration do far...the ideal thing is to first engage stakeholders and see how 2orkwble it is and the 3ffects on students and education generally. Furthermore, they should just simply control enrolment age at this point and allow a gradual implementation by allowing those who are already in the system to graduate without being affected. You can't just make a DECREE when we are not under military rule! What will the children do for 2 to 3 years? Very thoughtless

Tinubu has no certificate so he doesn't even know the value of education.

The policy is dead on arrival. He can't implement it because children of highly placed politicians are involved.

He will be replaced sooner than the policy takes effect.

Very correct, the minister can use that policy up north, he wants to drag the southern part backwards like the north, everyone should kick against it, the policy is retrogressive in every way

It is even a tragedy that this is happening under President Tinubu's watch. So tragic. Huge let down.

Girls can marry at 16 years of age and have mature men climb on them in Nigeria but the same 16 year old in Nigeria cannot sit for SSCE/GCE or gain ission to study into universities.

Outcome of this news:

1) More underage children available for factory Jobs (mostly menial as companies won't employ 'no-certificate holders' in official post)

2) High-handedness/ I don't care attitude of factory employers
(because they're sure of availability of continued work Force)

3) High crime rate
(unfavorable work conditions due to employers high-handedness wouldn't encourage someone to work)

*Girls resort to selling sex; Guys resort to crime(physical/online)*

4) Graduates churned out by universities yearly reduces (Universities might want to hike fee to for shortage. )

-Lecturers can handle size and maturity of students hence better lectures

5) Price of processed food stuffs expected to fall

(because of availability of factory work Force hence cheaper input to production

because the opposite(unavailability of workers) usually leads to inflation - if factories can't find workers, they resort to increasing the pay to attract workers which is them factored in costof production hence making price of their finished product rise)

6) Expect drop in jamb high score
(students stay away from school for years...brain get rusty. Most will run their WAEC in special centers and be jambed by JAMB

7) majority of mothers will want their children to stay at home and start kindergarten late so as to meet up to the age requirement and not stay at home for years

*This spells more women out of work Force to become stay at home mothers (for a while, hence disrupting work production in company they're employed)*

Meaning it will be expensive for companies to hire women in their work Force ...

Meaning adult women will be unfavorable by employers in Nigeria cry

Government is fighting to send children back to school, instead the minister is bringing a policy that will keep children out of school.

What will happen to students out of school waiting for 2 yrs to write waec and jamb?

The minister should be asked to resign immediately

its counter productive. I have people who were graduates at 18-19years and they are doing well today. People will rather send their children to schools in neighboring countries and abroad than making them to wait to write WAEC. Its such a barbaric thought and would be too stupid to discuss.
A minister of education and JAMB director should not be above 50years as it looks like those there now cannot divorce their thoughts from their old relic past. Things cannot always be the same, times change. The 6.3.3.4 system of education has been overtaken by technology.

We need people with forward looking mind to head the education sector.

Exactly what they're trying to correct. You would not find it profitable to finish primary school at the age of 9 moving forward

Part of the anomaly and parent driven corruption we have in Nigeria.

You did not finish Primary school.

You simple proceeded to secondary school without finishing primary school.

If you had departed in Pry4, you certainly would not have had a First School Leaving Certificate that is issued to those who completed primary education or at least completed Pry5.

The policy being advocated is certainly unhealthy, but it will rein in corrupt parents like yours who undermine rules and regulations.

The policy should simply set 16 years as the minimum age.

Any person advocating for an age earlier than 16yrs, is certainly part of the decay we have in this country.

Imagine the abuse we have had in Nigeria.

What manner of abuse would allow a pry4 student for Common Entrance?

In the late '80s and throughout the '90s, only Pry6 students who are by default the statutory candidates, and some exceptional pry5 students are allowed to sit for common entrance exam.

But trust Nigerians to always find a cunning and corrupt way through.

A sibling of mine once encountered a fellow JSS student that confided in her that she has many birth certificates to allow for many age options.

Imagine what parents are enabling in their kids at that young age?

Parents are the cheats who raise further cheats in Nigeria.

Nothing should stop bright students from achieving their feats. Let schools/universities set ages for their students. Nothing should stop a 16years old from going to the university. The earlier the better.

People get PhD at 17 or 19
People graduate at 12 in advanced country

But someone from a region with below 60% literacy rate think otherwise

I just don't understand why Nigerians refuse to rise up against these ridiculous ideas pushed at them by their government. undecided

In that very same country, children 12 years of age or less are allowed to be married off, but a child less than 18 is not allowed to take JAMB before the age of 18. undecided

Only thing that will be common is the following, not the rubbish you posted:
Students will increase their age before entering secondary school, this can be done by forging birth certificate.
Students will result into writing GCE
Rich students will write IGSCE and leave Nigeria for better place.
