The Lagos State Police Command, on Sunday, said it had begun an investigation into the yet-to-be-identified 25-year-old contract employee, who died after he jumped into an iron melting pot of his company.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, while confirming the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria, said the safety officer of the company, whose name also was not mentioned, reported the case to the Sagamu Road Police Division on August 3, at about 6.00 p.m.

The company is located in the industrial scheme of the Odogunyan area in Ikorodu of Lagos State, Hundeyin disclosed.


He said the safety officer reported that on the same date, at about 3.15 p.m., the contract staff member attached to the AOD Section of the company allegedly ran to the iron melting pot, which was out of bounds to all the staff during operation.

“He jumped into it and all efforts made by his colleagues to stop him proved abortive, while his body was completely melted.

“Detectives from the station visited the scene of the crime. The family of the deceased has since been ed, while an investigation is ongoing”, Hundeyin said.

End time jump. If this is actually confirmed to be true after thorough and diligent investigation, then this is a serious poor mental health and possibly psycho-spiritual things. How on earth will someone be fantasizing over what would happen if he or she jumps into a furnace of melting iron at over 1538 degrees centigrade. This is a first for me. This is a rare occurence and a lesson to companies to keep a check on the mental health of those charged with this kind of industrial operations. May God console his family

Suicide was something you'll hardly hear Nigerians indulge in but ever since APC came to be, from Buharis tenure and now Tinubu, the rate at which Nigerians commit suicide is really scary.

We are know to be resilient and ready to keep living no matter the hardship, but recently people are really losing hope that their situation can get better.

That thumbs up scene in Terminator 2: Judgement Day comes to mind. What a terrible way to liquidate yourself, if it's not murder.

Melting pot should have a cover or something to prevent anyone willing to commit sui.cide in their premises.

You are ruling out depression which can lead to suicide. At 25, not good at all. RIP to him.
