Minister of sport, arts and culture Gayton McKenzie has entered the debate surrounding Miss South Africa contestant Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina's eligibility to compete for the title. ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba also ed the debate. This young woman is compromising herself by identifying with characters who are likely in South Africa illegally. Bad idea,” Mashaba said on X. EFF leader Julius Malema spoke about the matter during the party's podcast interview last week. Your citizenship is determined by where you were born, so if she was born here, she’s South African. It doesn’t matter. She’s not her parents, she’s herself. So why say she’s from Nigeria or Mozambique? She was born here,” he said. https://www.timeslive.co.za/politics/2024-07-30-we-cant-have-a-nigerian-compete-in-miss-sa-mckenzie-enters-debate/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oRGfO1VEhU?si=enp1QeeEnrf4zzkS South African content creator Jacqui jax 9 Likes 4 Shares |

If she was born in South Africa then she is South African. Its common sense. What is all this debate about? We have Africans Born in Europe and America representing these countries without any issue, where's the love and unity in Africa? 167 Likes 15 Shares |

EreluRoz: What are you even saying? Should they ignore the fact that her mother is a South African? The main reason why they have issues with her is because she's partly Nigerian. Whether they accept it or not, she's partly South African also, so she's eligible. 88 Likes 6 Shares |

Myrrhis:We are identified by our paternal root and as such she's Nigerian. Even Nigerians will not allow such 19 Likes 2 Shares |

EreluRoz:according to south Africa nationality law, You automatically qualify for South African citizenship if: 1.you are born in South Africa and at least one of your parents is a South African citizen or SA permanent residency permit holder. 2. if you are adopted by a South African citizen. 101 Likes 15 Shares |

What about Nigerians born in Europe that are representing these countries in several sporting events without any problem Her parents, a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother both permanent residency permit holders gave birth to her there which is one of the requirements to be regarded as south African 46 Likes 8 Shares |

Massiveglory:Stop shifting post, Chinedu is an apologetic bigot who never associated himself with his father's root. Has no Yoruba name but adopted one just for election, doesn't understand Yoruba and never cared about it, insults his father's land online and offline publicly but hasn't apologized for his bigotry post up till today. Bianca married Ojukwu for 22 years but denied Election in Anambra. Akeredodu's wife was flogged with canes by Igbos in Imo state. So, go drink cold Fanta. Go and look at her names well, they are Igbo names and Surname mispelt. So, her father must be another confused Chinedu from Biafra who wants to develop SA. By the way, you belong to your maternal roots in South Africa and maybe Ghana. 29 Likes 2 Shares |

She's a South African with Nigerian parents. We blacks are our own biggest problems. All the past winners of this useless event have been whites, and these fools had no issues with it till a black lady with Nigerian background. You wonder why black pple can never progress. ![]() 101 Likes 7 Shares |

“Miss South Africa entrants must be South African citizens and in possession of a valid South African ID or port. If an applicant holds dual citizenship, they must provide details of both on the entry form.“ The minister is just pandering to the whims of a people who feel jealous and intimidated by her Nigerian connection. The reaction would have been different if she was from Mozambique or somewhere else. Anyways if push comes to shove, she should leave their competition for them. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

God1000: South Africa is a rich country with a large poor black population. After the ANC came to power in 1994, more black people came to South Africa. Most of them were not skilled, and pretty soon were competing with poor south africans in the unskilled and SME Level. Result, many black SA Lost out. ANC too has not done enough to help matters which is why this last election, voters showed them shege. They won, but not enough and had to go and beg to form a coalition with other parties. RIghtly or wrongly, many black South Africans view African migrants as taking away opporutnites from them The Nigeria-born Miss SA candidate filters into that narrative. It does not matter that she was born in SA , and has citizenship, all that matters is she is a foreigner taking away the space a humble Zulu, Xhosa, Thembu, or even Coloured, Afrikaans, or Indian gal should get. The surprising thing is Malema speaking up in of her, especially when most of his ers are poor black South Africans who buy the above narrative. MODIFIED This is not about calling one country or group of country evil, this is about raising issues for thought. Maybe I should have made it clear. Sorry if I was not clear enough. 11 Likes 1 Share |
