Problem is that the certificate needs to be authenticated at ministry of foreign affairs, and then you bring it to brazil using courier. then send it to the Nigeria embassy in brazil for the consular letter and authentication (both will cost 300 reais)
2. 2 option: either the fathers name is not on the birth certificate before you even have a chance to apply for the port or, the father is present and has his name on the birth certificate and both of you apply for the baby's port together. the circumstance surrounding getting the port in the absence of father is beauricratic and I do not fully understand it. you may need to consult the policia federal website.

I already have the procedure for applying for baby's port in the absence of the father clarified through various research I have made. That won't be a problem.

My question is at the point of traveling with baby alone back to Nigeria, If there would be a need for the other parent and I to process a travel authorization that will accompany the port. Based on my research, it seems any Brazilian minor traveling with only 1 parent would have to have an authorization from the other parent who is not traveling with the child.

This is the basis of my question.

I sincerely do not think it matters if you used public or private but I may be wrong. I know people who got letters from private hospitals here or even had them the embassy to assure them that they wouldn't be using the public healthcare but still got denied. It may be different for a second time applicant, I'm not sure but i wouldn't risk it except you have the means to apply from another embassy which isn't Nigeria.

Yes, it's possible to get it done without being physically there. If you have the right they get everything done for you including foreign affairs stamp. You need to start now if you really want to do it.

Since you're here alone, naturally the baby's father's name will not be on the birth certificate and even if you have a means, don't put it on it cos it can complicate things. Since his name will not be on the birth certificate, it won't be on the port hence you can travel alone with the baby without needing any authorization. (100% confirmed cos I did this)

If you put his name on the birth certificate, you won't even be able to do the port because he'll need to be physically present to get the port done.

When you all come back, you can have his name put on the birth certificate for free at the cartório and eventually the port, this is when you both choose they type of travel authorization the port will have.

You'll only need authorization if the port was signed for by two parents and you both chose that the child can only travel with the authorization of the other parent. Since it's just you, you won't need it.

1. Yes, I know a few people. I thought the age limit was 10 years but someone here said 12/13 so I’m not so sure. The child must be enrolled in a school in Brazil, the process is relatively fast if you have all the requirements. You can check the Brazilian govt website for more details.

2. It’s not easy to get a Nanny here due to language barrier and most Nigerians are not willing due to bad past experience, however, you may be lucky to find one. If you want to bring someone from Nigeria, you can apply for tourist visa. They can only stay for a maximum of 180 days and won’t be entitled to permanent residency except they are grandparents or siblings of the Brazilian child.

3. Private hospitals range from R$17,000 to R$22,000. You pay obstetrician seperately between R$3000 to R$5000. Públic Hospitals are free. Same level of professionalism but private hospitals are generally more conducive. Black market rate is R$135/140 to 1 naira, USD 5.1 to 1 reas. It changes from time to time

4. Accommodation is generally not cheap in São Paulo especially for short stays. If you’re looking for something decent, your budget is USD$1000 upwards per month for an entire apartment. You might get lower but I doubt considering it’s summer soon. Nice and safe residential areas include Vila Mariana, Vila Olympia, Itaim Bibi Brooklin, Jardins, Pinheiros, Morumbi. Morumbi is home to popular private hospitals.
You might get cheaper accommodation (probably) in places at Centro, like Republica, Bela Vista, Consolação, Se etc but you may not like the sight of homeless people on the streets. Check Airbnb for options

To everybody that wants to apply for a Brazil Visa this is the steps

Get all your documents ready(flight, hotel reservation, bank statement etc)

Create a profile on https://ec-lagos.itamaraty.gov.br/ after creating the profile you will see a manual form you have to print and fill manually, and other things you will need to submit on Brazil main website. The Visa fees and bank will also be there.

Then visit https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br/sci/pages/web/ui/#/cidadao-nacionalidade you will need to translate to English, click on foreign citizen, then click on visa, fill the forms with the correct information and all. If you are applying for more than 1 person you have to fill the form for every body applying to get the visa, same at the lagos website too *when filling the form choose via courier to transmit your document to embassy*

After filling the form, and attaching your documents which include the manual form you filled and others specifically stated by the lagos ec, then go ahead and print the protocol page which has a space for port and signature. Attach your port picture and manually sign the page, then scan the page.

Sign in to your profile on https://ec-lagos.itamaraty.gov.br/ to your protocol page, proof of payment and international port bio data page then click submit.

A mail will be sent to your email associated with the Ec lagos acct about your application being reviewed, at this stage you will have to mail your physical documents including your port to the embassy in lagos(it will have to be a two way package delivery, you send to embassy then they send back to you)

After sending your documents to embassy visit https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br/sci/pages/web/ui/#/cidadao-nacionalidade then click on check status to see the status of your visa application

Like someone mentioned, you have to consider your limitation date for traveling especially if you are flying Qatar. I advise people not to fly Qatar because they are very problematic. If you have already booked them, dress smart and get a doctor's report.

If you're flying any other airline, you'll be fine.

Once you get to Brazil, you don't have a problem. They are not concerned about you giving birth here as long as you have a valid visa. They usually do not ask questions but if they do it would be regarding your itinerary and accommodation.

Regarding hospitals, the difference between Private and Public hospitals is comfort really. In a private hospital, you get a room to yourself and it's more conducive than what you have in Public hospitals. The medical services are pretty much the same. This is not to say public hospitals are not conducive, they are but you get to share room with others.

In private hospitals, communication might be easier because you'll find English speaking doctors. You may find them in public hospitals too especially if it's a teaching hospital.

Regarding C-sections, the rumor is that private hospital easily opt for C-sections because it's easier and less time consuming. The truth is C-section is quite common in Brazil, I know some of us who have birthed here and most of us had C-section. The rule in Public hospitals is that if you are fine with no medical complications, they will not do C-section for you except you don't go into labor at 41 weeks. They also opt for C-section if you have been in labor for a long time. I experienced both.
I also know ppl who had normal births in private hospital so it depends on your situation and also what you want.

Declaring childbirth as the purpose of your trip will lead to automatic refusal interm of Brazil visa application.

You do not necessarily need a lawyer to apply for PR and you will not easily find some to put you through for free in brazil, However they are a lot of NGO that will help you for free and at every step you run into a dead end, you can always come here and ask questions,trust me it's not that difficult.

Declaring childbirth is outright refusal like someone said up there. If your wife can conceal her bump in any way, you may still give it a shot but you'd have to start your application immediately.

What I did was to identify those with the key information on this thread, clicked on their profile and read all their posts. That way, I was able to filter off a lot of information and got only the ones important for my situation, this eventually reduced the number of questions I had when I made my appearance on the thread. I still ask questions but that's after I have gone through and found that such hasn't been answered by any of the gurus here.

For instance, just few days ago I asked a question about travel authorization for my baby. One of the gurus responded and I made it clear that I was already aware of that (because of posts here in the past that explained the procedure in detail). Hence I was able to ask the question specific to my situation because I hadn't found that from any of the gurus I checked their past post.

I would suggest you do adopt the same approach. You'll be able to learn so much within a short while and this would move things very fast.

The question you should be asking is who are those with knowledgeable info that you can tap from their wealth of vast knowledge through posts shared recently and in the past.

1. I don’t think you should have any problems, but I recommend TAAG if you don’t mind. If you need any assistance at Lagos airport, I know some people who can help.

2. You can even get your F while you’re in Nigeria. Your family will also need Fs to process any documents in Brazil. In short, you can’t do anything without a F in Brazil.
