Their lack of standard for their franchise and greediness of focusing only on money .

One Mr biggs rice will be manageable, the one down the street will be like amadioha cooked it .

The next one will sell amala, the other one will sell tuwo shinkaffi.

Their death have nothing to do with competition only their poor resuration have been frustrated by competition.

Exactly my thoughts. The mother company did a poor job of overseeing the franchises.

The main reason is their major investor, UAC divested from the business and from then on they didn't have the financial strength to compete.

God bless you jare, exactly because they lost the uniqueness of their products. Same thing will soon happen to mat ice. In Benin, anywhere you go, you will see them. GT plaza don't buy into franchise stuff and he is gaining ground everyday. He will soon push mat ice out of business.

Generally all the old conglomerates are having problems. The John Holts, UTC, Leventis etc. Mr Biggs is part of UAC foods which is part of UAC group. All their divisions and/or subsidiaries are either comatose or in ICU.

Well, supreme ice cream doesn’t seem to have a competition till now.

I still visited the one at ICM in Lagos some years back. Had to go get pizza and cold stone to console myself.

But BlackBell make sense o. Ate at one of their outlets at VI; I’m one that love to sample restaurants and my; i wasn't disappointed.

Mega Chicken will make you go crazy with varieties.

I don’t see mega chicken changing much soon. They seem to have a dedicated customer base that follows them about and don’t mind much about the price.

And the two are more of restaurants than fast foods.

Mama Cass no be fast food sha but once upon a time, Mr Biggs partnered with Mama Cass, both shared same outlet. Was it mama Cass or African kitchen.

They used to sell one mad Ofada rice back then.

And tantalizer didn’t chase anyone. Mr Biggs outlived them. I can’t the last time I saw tantalizers but Mr Biggs is still in malls near me.

I think it was the opposite. I don't anyone thinking Mr. Biggs was trash.

It was competitors that push them out (as they set unrealistic standards and were too sure if themselves).

My father applied, they told him he needed 4 million of in those days money (that would be 40 million of today's naira based on dollars exchange). Then they made some crazy demands like; it must be on a major road (they want it on the road, your property or rented building). People with that type of money are not usually patient enough to nurse a new business-location (they want profit today, those capable of running the show, can't afford the prerequisites).

They felt no one could beat them and overnight many Asians came with their own recipes. Nothing special. Just fry suger and rob it on the body of your finished junk-food, the end.

Anyway, 99% of my comic books back then ware sponsored by them and Guinness Mult.

It wasn't the opposite, regulated activities by franchises over time tarnished the brand image and experience and led to it's slow death..that your dad couldn't afford an outlet then didn't mean there weren't people that had at least 3 different branches in different northern states and ran them on bank loans which they successfully paid back in record time from Kaduna owners to Jos to PH , even had an Alhaji that had over 10 branches, so yes it was stringent criteria to apply, but it paid off for the diligent.
One or two franchisee that kept to the quality edicts are still running Thier operations.
While they copied a successful Mac Donald's concept Nigeria happened to them in leasing existing outlets to cronies and dis honesty in sales report and remittance.
