Labour Unions shouldn't accept any amount less than 150k as minimum wage with the economic realities on ground. • The FG and the sub-national government should set their priorities right. • They should cut the cost of governance across board and block all the many loopholes for corruption in the system. • They should address the issue of multiple taxation on businesses and make the business environment more conducive by addressing the pain points of many business concerns. • The FG should look seriously at the possibility of adjusting the national revenue sharing formula in favour of the Sub-national government. • 150k should be the irreducible minimum wage going by the economic realities on ground for any right thinking government. Labour Unions, if it would take another indefinite strike at the end of the 5 day window you gave the government, it's in order. 150k should remain the irreducible minimum from your team. 1 Like |

geunik: A lot is wrong with our Labour laws in this country. So because it's a one Man s business, they are not entitled to a decent wage or how are the government workers better off than the private employees, or are there separate markets for the government workers and another for the private workers? Are we notnoke Nigerian anymore? Because the effect of this wage increase will definitely affect negatively the poor due to the increase in goods. What I expect from NLC is to put pressure on the government on economic reforms, that way, our currency will have value and every Nigerian will benefit. It is not the quantity of money you have in your pocket, but what value of that money in the marjet today. Nigerian workers are not only government workers and the organized private sector wokers which constitute a little percentage of the total work force of the country. |

DaddyCoool: You think an amount like 60k will not make a world of difference to some people who have no job and no alternative. If it is easy to create businesses, jobs and pay people salary, most people will own a business |
DaddyCoool(f): 10:47am On Jun 07, 2024 |
firearcher: So will an amount like 5K or 10K. So let's make those the minimum wage?? Point is, there is a threshold of an amount you pay an adult to work full time. The argument sholud never be because a ridiculously low amount makes a difference to them! |
firearcher: 10:53am On Jun 07, 2024 |
DaddyCoool: You responded to a 60k offer without any nuance and that is what I responded to. |
DaddyCoool(f): 10:58am On Jun 07, 2024 |
firearcher: Not true. I pointed out the ratio of min wage in US vs a US Senator's wages compared with same ratio in Nigeria |

nayi:How may times will you be told that business with less than 15 employees are exempted from the minimum wage Act? If you have more than 15 employees, you are no longer operating a small scale business |

Love800:I can't the term but maybe small scale. Small, medium and large scale was the classification with staff strength below 20 consider as small scale that won't fall under many labour laws and are excluded from many taxes. In some other cases, business doing less than 20 million naira per year and some other methods of classification that I can't |

geunik: The minimum wage is just a basic standard amount any business owner or employer uses as a scale to fix salaries for employees. Yes, a POS attendant can be paid such amount if the revenue generated through that business wherever it's situated meets up. I'm sure even the attendant knows how much revenue is coming into the business through her services. This is the reason why in certain private business the employees can request for an increase in their wages if they can actually know the revenue generated and they know their production output. The owner of a company can't be travelling with private plane and sending his family on vacation and still expect his employees to remain receiving peanuts. Sometimes what makes people in certain establishment is not because of peanuts paid them but because the owners gives certain goodwill packages in different forms. |
geunik(m): 6:56pm On Jun 07, 2024 |
bixton:Most POS operators make less than 150k per month. I only use that as an example. If course small scale business doing well can pay more than that and staffs can always ask for wage increase to match their output. That won't stop classification of business into categories for the law to take effect 1 Like |
