Honestly, I keep wondering why people hype people who play chess?

Like exactly what's the point of the hype?

In Nigeria today we have chess tournament in the streets and all sorts of chess geniuses and protege

But What really is the benefits of the game or what makes it special compared to our local ludo, ten-ten, suwé or drafts?

I understand that people tend to feel chess is some kind of brain work or brain boosting stuff.

But most chess world best players that we know never go on to become someone remarkable in their career fields. Instead, they will only go on to play the chess game.

So, what's so special about chess exactly because I'm lost here

Chess is a classy game and there was a time in history when chess playing was an indication of high IQ.
Most of the Military generals and great leaders of old were great chess players.

You'll not understand the hype till you understand how the game is played.

Don't be a simpleton. In checkers each piece makes the same exact move. This is not so with chess where each piece has it's own unique movement which controls files, diagonals and centre squares.

In chess, you're not just battling with pieces , you're battling with billions upon billions of probabilities that could result in a victory or defeat.

chess game is the model medieval set up of battle during the middle ages,with castles rooks,knights,bishops,pawns,king and queen ,it is a high strategy game that is played with advanced planning,this is a game for deep thinkers not like draft or ludo you see idle men playing under the mango tree while drinking satchets of action bitter

Nah Oyinbo get am that's why. If we also hype our checkers it will be on the same level with chess.
Everybody hypes what they have except we blacks. I play both chess and checkers and I can say both require some level of intelligence. If you sit with some old men to play checkers, they'll just be packing your game like magic.
The hype should be about GO like some people mentioned cuz it requires high level of IQ.

I don't like football much. I only develop some ion when Nigeria plays and I quickly move forward on the country loses.

However, I do to some extent understand the ion people have for the sport.

The love for chess lives and dies at the chess table. Whether you use it to change the world is your business. At most, kudos to you.

Chess was probably the closest thing to science fiction in the Middle Ages.

It is game of chess and a game of chess than chess fans and fanatics love. Nothing else matters.

There some moves your opponent makes, if given the chance, you'd meditate all week on it.

How to outwit, outmatch and out scheme your opponent is all you ponder on. It involves critical thinking.
