According to the tenets of Yoruba traditional hunters, the victim or the shooter, or both must have transgressed the laws of Ogun.

Sounds kinda fishy, if you asked me. Do deers now walk on two legs? Why did the suspect abscond after the shooting?

Ironically it is seasoned hunters that are most likely to shoot a person by mistake, and here is the reason why. As a hunter gains more experience in the field, it becomes apparent that one RARELY sees the entire silhouette of a quarry so as to place a clean kill shot. Hunters learn over time to spot movement in the undergrowth, and then to ESTIMATE the exact location of the animal while taking aim.

This ability to discern the movement of a creeping animal against the backdrop of swaying undergrowth on windy days is one of the elements that distinguish experienced hunters from rookies who still expect to see the entire animal before opening fire. The danger to fellow hunters arises when this acquired instinct to swiftly take aim and shoot at movement prevents an experienced hunter from patiently waiting to be SURE that what APPEARS to be an animal is NOT another human being.

As a highly experienced stealth hunter who ONLY hunts ALONE by day or night due to this important safety consideration, I nonetheless recognize how easy it could be for a hunter who is part of a group to open fire on a fellow hunter in error. All this ridiculous speculation that the accidental shooting of a hunter was deliberate or caused by magical forces, illustrates that most respondents to this topic have never held a gun and never set foot in a forest to hunt real prey species that duck, dart, and hide in a manner that could easily result in accidental shootings unleashed by adrenaline-charged hunting party .

There’s more to this life than just the physical realm we all know and acknowledge as existing. This story reminds me of my fellow ‘Corper’ at Mbube II, Ogoja L.G.A. of cross river state sometimes in 2010 who was shot by a hunter because he mistook her for a bush animal; it took the spiritual intervention of a traditional medicine man in the community first, to keep the lady alive before she was taken to the hospital.
These types of occurrences are more than meet the eyes but most won’t believe.

Your take makes quite a lot of sense from a logical point of view. I’ve never hunted or set foot in a forest for the sole purpose of hunting nonetheless, mysterious and unexplainable things do occur and I believe this is one of such occurrences.

Hunters in Nigeria are a superstitious group of people who believe in the most preposterous and improbable myths, prominent among which is the suicidal/homicidal perception that juju talismans can enable a hunter to become impervious to gunfire, whether deliberate or unintentional. This particular "bulletproof" mythology has led to the death of many hunters over the years because practical, common-sense gun safety rules taught to the military and police as examples, tend to be IGNORED by traditional hunters who recklessly fire their guns with the foolhardy and unfounded confidence that a few juju incantations can take the place of all firearm safety protocol.

This scenario of "accidental" shootings has played out with tragic regularity in the forests of Nigeria and other African countries, whenever hunting expedition participants throw caution to the wind and fire their guns indiscriminately without a care in the world. Ignorance is bliss until one of those errant shotgun blasts rips apart the flesh and bone of a fellow hunter, at which juncture accusing fingers are pointed at imaginary "spiritual" culprits that can conveniently be assigned all blame for the occurrence of such avoidable calamities.

Not really bro, this shit happens a lot, if you were born in rural community, you will know a lot of fetish these so called hunters does.
Most times, for them to make a great kill, they transform into some certain animal to get up close and personal with particular game they seek, it takes beyond the ordinary eyes to decipher that it ain't an animal per se.
To effectually make it on this note, the hunter needs abstain from so many things before embarking on the expedition, orderwise, it will have a boomerang effect on the hunter; so in this context, it is either that the dead hunter deviated from what he was supposed to abstain from which can even include what you eat as food at that moment, or the fault might be from the shooter as well.
Bottom line is that the shooter saw what he said he saw, not claiming.......

Sounds like a super story right? But it's reality though

No magic or hocus pocus was involved in this purely accidental shooting, of the sort that occurs every year in the USA where nobody bothers with any fetish chit. That is why hunters are required to wear bright orange vests in the USA - so they are not mistaken for animals
