It's illegal for roads not to have markings.

Drivers are not meant to overtake other cars on an unmarked road.
Unmarked road simply means one lane, even if the road is wide enough to carry three cars.

The painting is standard and means something. Continuous white line means you cannot overtake. Broken white lines means you can overtake. There are many lines but few used in Nigeria

It's a GARBAGE, STUPID, PRIMITIVE construction.

It is because you people praise this rubbish that they keep building it.

If cars are coming from both sides on that road, where are pedestrians supposed to walk?

Inside the open gutter?

Are pedestrians not taxpayers?

Why can't they create a narrow pavement or place slabs over the gutter on both sides for people to walk along?

They are not supposed to be walking on the asphalt.

It's because the road is not properly built that they are doing that, in your picture.

It helps in driving at night. Especially if someone flash their head lamps on you, the only way to maintain your lane is to focus on at that white line until the incoming vehicle has ed.

We are being bombarded with this 3.5 km road everywhere you turn to on Nairaland.

That is the standard worldwide. The lines have meanings to the motorist. Stay in Your lane and only switch after traficating the turn signal on yoir car..

The space in between the white lines means you can overtake the vehicle in front of you. A continious white line means you cant overtake in that portio of the road. So stick to your lane
