I am going to speak from a professional point of view as an Engineer and somebody that has been building in Lagos State for the past 15 years.

The Lagos State regulatory Laws for buildings are more of extortionary than regulatory, this is the reason why people keep finding ways to by the laws.

There is a reason why developers keep avoiding the buidling permits and other permits in Lagos not because they dont want to be compliant but because of the tedious process, the bureaucasis and the unnecessary protocols involved.

First and formost building permits should be done by the Local governments as it is done in sane climes and not by one office in Alausa. It takes about a year before your building permits will be out that is if you "bribe" very well. Thats not good enough for businesses. Building permit should be out max three months. Some developers take bank loan to build, imagine taking loan for a project and the interest running for a year before commencement of the project.

On the other hand, I would prefer they madate only ed and qualified personnel to be able to make adjustments to buildings. These permits are another way to collect bribe in their agencies just like port and immigration offices

If one is talking of structural renovation then permit is needed.. infact before I could complete my 2 stories, I needed permit for it... But fixing of tiles in rooms, plastering, windows etc??

They’re totally out of ideas and taxation is the only thing they can reason. Investors should be wary of Lagos. Ogun state that happens to be their neighbor doesn’t make life such difficult.

I am an APC follower but its high time another party takes over Lagos state. These people have become so comfortable that making life unbearable to Lagosians is their pastime.
They have milked the state dry since 1998 with no audit of their reign by any other unit. They are politicians who live on public wealth.

Who will buy the few lands Left? Cos many would rather choose to invest in their states. If your government start to build everywhere with their harsh laws, who will invest, occupy or buy? If many of the ppl you are targeting in this evil take their business elsewhere, it will affect you huge IGR. Once their govt complete their own Airport, Seaport and others, who will remain in Lagos?
