Parents and teachers. Most teachers teach for the money to survive not for the ion The schools gives good grades to students so that the parents wouldn't withdraw there wards from the school You can not discipline children due to the reactions of parents. The ministry of education is to blame. As funny as this sounds, let me break it down: Most JAMB questions are based on A-level curriculum and for students to convincingly, they must read thoroughly, much beyond the scope of O'level syllabus covered in secondary schools. In the UK, students are meant to attend 6th form college where A-level courses are taught, thus preparing them for A-level exams and further studies. We have an exam that is too advanced for most school leavers, but because the majority of students who have always depended on EXPO, we refused to talk about it. Instead of the FG to have students stay at home up till 18, maybe we should add A-level colleges to the academic system so that students can either chose to write JAMB upon finishing secondary school or enter through A-level/Direct entry into 200 level. 174 Likes 18 Shares |

ironheart: I won't entire put the blame on teachers tho, this parents of this days don't really have time for their kids, this parents leave as early as 5am n returns around 10pm sometimes 11pm de don't monitor their kids. education does not end in d 4 walls of the classroom, it goes beyond that. teachers in the secondary and primary schools are among the poorest, the salary is nothing to write home about, even if there's ion for the job, the pay is unable to settle the bills. this kids pay more attention to social media also. I suggest a state of emergency in the Nigerian educational sector. this is terrible 29 Likes 1 Share |

Samuelriano1:I understand but growing up, my teachers impacted me more than i can . They do not care who your father was and they did there job without fear or favour. Now we see teachers who are less motivated because employers do not pay them well, parents intimidates them and you dare not punish kids for not doing assignments. This same parent like you said who had little or no time for kids still blame the teacher's for failure 29 Likes 1 Share |

This result isn’t just a result of Government school but both private and missionary schools so if teachers are not teaching in Government schools, what about private and missionary schools? So I am on the opinion that the students are to be blamed. These students spend so much time on social media than in their books, the zeal and quest to make money has overtaken their time for their books, little SS3 girls who are to read their books are after boys, men and money. It is a pathetic situation. 103 Likes 7 Shares |

That percentage is wrong, i wonder why they keep using it everywhere. Even jamb self failed simple percentage calculation. Modified: the percentage is actually correct. The way they separated it is what got me confused. The 300 above and 250 above still falls under the 200 above. So u only need to add the 26 to 74 which is 100. 9 Likes |

Of coz one has to understand the issues before solutions can be suggested. But to assume that there is a singular cause of the problem is indicative of no appreciation of the situation. The schools, the students, the parents, the exam body, the ministry of education, the electricity distribution company, the values we have as a country where a random skit maker who does ‘kiss or grab’ is richer than ten professors combined, the government, the media, the groups that give #10,000 to best performing students, and more than hundred million to some reality star, or millions to some instagram twerking Queen or some portable to serve as influencers. Those who have suggested that this generation of young people is some gen z nonsense and that their aspiration should be Ilebaye, the churches and mosques, the financial insecurity, the insecurity of lives, the dissatisfied lots of teachers whose earning only motivate them to show up in school and not make further efforts. And even much more. 25 Likes 3 Shares |

As far as I'm concerned, students are to be blamed. The decision to learn comes from within the student. Parents can only do their best to send you to the best schools, teachers can only try to make you learn; they can't enforce knowledge on you. You decide if you want to learn, and you do this by reading, paying attention and understanding the subjects being taught. I didn't attend the best schools when I was a student, but I chosed to be educated. me for Sales, Installations or Maintenance of any satellite decoder, such as DStv, StarTimes, Strong, SLTV or any other Free To Air decoders. 12 Likes 1 Share |

I wish I can go back to 2013 and correct the mistake I made. In Nigeria, once you can read, write communicate well in English, no suffer yourself with all this jamb after your secondary school, just learn a good handwork and start building on it immediately.

This isn’t a new situation. We just haven’t had access to the statistics before now. There’s no proof that the ing percentages were much higher than this in previous years. This is the true face of Nigerias secondary education, and probably has always been. 13 Likes |

Teachers don do their part. I partly blame parents who in most cases don't even have time 4 their kids(I'm experiencing this with a colleague's son first hand). And pupils and students nowadays don't even have time to look at their books after school. What they're concerned about is cartoons and Tik-tok.

santaclaws: Shut up! Jamb questions are not usually too concise and broad. Studying now is difficult with social media. And then teachers that are being paid 12k in secondary schools to teach chemistry and physics, you think they will teach with commitments as compared to our teachers that taught us back in the days, with comfortable diaries, some even had wife's and children. They were teaching g with joy. Don't even blame the teachers they need to survive, Also teachers cannot discipline students , times have changed, you teach and walk out. It totally wrong to discipline. So only very strong willed student can be motivated 6 Likes 1 Share |

Poverty… Check the statistics and status of people that ed 200 and above majority came from well to do to average middle class homes and they mostly attended private schools. Nigerians are so funny I read the dumb comments above and below me and laugh…. Poverty is what makes a teacher in a public school lazy to truly impact knowledge to students… Rip HungerBad… his moniker was a really nice philosophical message highlighting the struggles of the average Nigerian. 12 Likes 3 Shares |

Parents and schools are to be blamed like someone rightfully said.. Let me tell you why.. In private school when you fail you are promoted , regardless of your performances, then the schools award marks, I mean huge marks so the students get to a particular average, not the teachers fault because the teachers teach what the scheme stipulates.. Parents wouldn't like their children to be scolded or punished... I overheard a parent tell school authority to allow her daughter to decay that no one should discipline her 4 Likes |

santaclaws:jamb have a syllabus and I don't think any A level question will be included in the exam. Most of the questions are inside the secondary school textbooks. The problem is comes from all sectors, from the students, parents and the teacher. If u check most schools today they are lacking one teacher or the other, or they change teachers regularly or the teachers fail to complete a syllabus in a term then skips it the next term. Another point is students are just too lazy to read. They just glance through and say they have read. Most of them would rather press their phone for 24hrs than read for an exam. They only read like 2 weeks to the exam which isn't enough time. Some it is even on the night of the exam they will read. Parents this days don't bother observing their students education this days. There own is just to pay school fees. When I was younger, my mom would ask me to bring my books each day after school and she would check it. She would also ask me questions on what I was thought for the day. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

Pikin wey go sabi book na from small he go dey show am. When it comes to the poor performance of students in exams like the 2024 UTME, I believe that parents play a significant role in children's academic journey. The foundation of a child's brilliance is laid during their primary education years, and it's the parents who have a profound influence during this critical period. They are the ones who instill values, create a ive learning environment, and guide their children towards a path of academic success. Therefore, I attribute 40% of the blame to parents, as their involvement and encouragement are pivotal in a child's educational development. Also, students themselves hold 40% of the responsibility, as their dedication, effort, and attitude towards learning also play a crucial role in their academic outcomes. It is also important to acknowledge that teachers contribute significantly as well, with about 30% of the responsibility lying on their shoulders to inspire, educate, and students throughout their learning journey.
