The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, said on Sunday that he had been given a presidential directive on the immediate design of the Sokoto- Badagry Coastal Highway.

Umahi spoke after he inspected the end of Section one, phase one, of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and its realignment in Lagos.

I’m happy that Mr President has also directed me to start the immediate design of the Sokoto-Badagry Coastal Highway.

This one is a spur of the Coastal highway, and that one is 1000 kilometres.

“We’ve started the design and I’m very sure that as soon as Federal Executive Council approves it , we will be starting at Sokoto side, which is the zero point.

“We also have another spur which is going to go from Enugu -Abakaliki-Ogoja going to Cameroon

Almost all the existing roads are in a state of ruin and unmotorable, yet, the design and construction of new coastal highways leading to nowhere is obviously more profitable.

And what is wrong in that ? Even if Umahi does not do any single thing till 2027 his antecedent place him well ahead of his contemporary for the presidential seat.

Umahi does not only deserve that seat but earned it n he is the kind of man Nigeria need to move forward not a Pandora Criminal in Peter Pandora Obi or even Tinubu.

The Sokoto-Badagry expressway is not a new project. In fact, the construction of the road commenced in 1978 and then abandoned in 1979! I’m surprised at the utter ignorance of those suggesting the road is another new shady project. After all, same road was discussed in the Senate back in 2021!

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and The Sokoto-Badagry expressway are strategic roads and have been in the pipeline for years. You guys should be grateful you now have a President willing to make real the completion of these excellent projects.

Where is Tinubu getting money to do all these roads from within 1 year of his being sworn in ? That's the question on my mind these days. No president had been this project oriented in the first year. Not Jonathan nor Buhari. Buhari even spent the first year appointing Ministers alone. Even though things are tough, infrastructural development is ongoing. We need to find ways to key in to all these developments. Intelligent people will key in to these opportunities being created and leave unintelligent ones to be crying and wailing online about everything.
