Lol..let us view this with common sense. Tinubu said he increased Nigeria oil production to 1.5m bpd. Nigerian oil, Venezuela etc is known as sweet crude and one of the best in the world. The aim of dangote building a refinery was to receive crude from Niger delta, refine it and make fuel, kerosene and diesel cheaper than imported ones and save Nigeria trillions of naira in loss to petroleum importation. Why would same dangote now need a large chunk of the country’s foreign exchange to import petroleum products from overseas at rates subsidized by FG for a completed refinery, similar to what petroleum marketers have done in the past more than 20 years?

I mentioned on a thread some months back that Dangote has been handed a license to legally lift and bunker oil under whatever guise (Crude or Refined).

Wailers have landed, ask them if they want to use naptha and fuel oil to fry egg at home. i don't know what the tears is all about. same refinery they say won't refine a drop of fuel until 2026.

Nigeria's Dangote oil refinery has issued tenders to sell two fuel cargoes for export, the first from the newly commissioned refinery, trading sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

The first cargo is 65,000 metric tons of low-sulphur straight run fuel oil, which Dangote has awarded to Trafigura and is due to load at the end of February, three of the sources said. Trafigura declined to comment.
At least one refiner said they had been offered the cargo by Trafigura without elaborating further.

The second tender is for about 60,000 tons of naphtha, three other sources said. Two of them added that the tender closes on Feb. 15. Loading details were not immediately available.

The two fuels on offer are typical products of running light sweet crude through a crude distillation unit (CDU) in a refinery without further upgrading capacity. It is expected to take months for upgrading units to be brought online, experts have said.

Does this mean that Dangote has no intention of producing petrol for Nigerian market? The naphtha that is supposed to be hydro treated, isomerized, reformed for petrol production is now being shipped to Asia and other parts of the world for petrochemical consumption.

Is it that these units (Hydrotreater, Isomerization, Catalytic Reformer and the gasoline blending system) are not available, hence the reason why they are exporting Naphtha? What’s the holdup? When are these units going to be commissioned? How long are we going to continue to import petrol?

Clarifications from the Dangote group will go a long way to shed more light around these grey areas.

What’s the difference between this strategy of exporting Naphtha and exporting crude oil/ condensates? I hope government, NNPC are paying attention to their oversight function.

The Federal Government of Nigeria through NNPC owns 20% of the Dangote Refinery. This is truly a milestone that may soon make us next exporter of refined petroleum products.

Both Naphtha and fuel oil are by products of the whole distillation process. One would expect that the main products should also be in the market since we may not necessarily have a need for these wastes

Crude oil is not Akpu that you get at a 2 by 2 shops without any regulations.
Crude are sold out base on contract which may involve years of Mou.

Dangote had to source for crude oil outside of Nigeria as Nigeria crude has been sold out to customers already.

He bought his crude in dollars so it's wise tha he sells in Dollars too
