Did Igbo people truncate Nigeria's democracy or did the military do it? The fact that they were led by an Igbo man is/was irrelevant. The military did what it felt right, to rescue the country from whatever plight they thought was enveloping the country at the time.

The actions of the coup leader is no more a reflection of Igbo people, than the countless coups that occurred afterwards, by primarily Northern military officers. I don't see anyone blaming the entirety of the North for the actions of a few opportunistic military figures.
