The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (Alteration) Bill, 2024 on rotation of power among the geo-political zones, senatorial zones and federal constituencies for presidential, gubernatorial and senatorial elections, respectively, being sponsored by the senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Abba Patrick Moro, on Wednesday, ed First Reading on the floor of the Senate.

The Bill seeks to alter the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) to make provisions for;

(1)(a) The office of the President of Nigeria to revolve round the six Geo-political Zones, with each state holding the office for a maximum of two of four years each, to give every section and state in Nigeria a sense of inclusion, participation and representation in Nigeriaโ€™s democracy.

(b) Any zone in Nigeria which has produced a President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shall not be eligible to produce another President until the other zones have taken their turns.

(2)(a) The office of the governor of a state in Nigeria to revolve round all the three Senatorial Zones in the state, to give every indigene of the state a sense of inclusion, participation and representation in the development of the state.

(b) Every senatorial zone in a state which has produced a governor of that state in a democratically conducted election shall not be eligible to produce a governor unless and until other Senatorial Zones have produced governors of the state.

(3)(a)The senatorial election shall rotate round all the federal constituencies in the senatorial zone to give a sense of inclusion, participation and representation in the constituencies and to engineer social progress and development.

(3)(b) Every federal constituency in a senatorial district which has produced a senator shall not be eligible to produce a senator unless and until all other federal constituencies produce a senator.

(4)(a) Every local government which has produced a Member of House of Representatives shall not be eligible to produce a Member of House of Representatives upon cessation of tenure, unless and until all local governments in the federal constituency produce a Member of House of Representatives.

(b) Provided that the occupant of an office in (a) above shall have served a full term of four years or any number of that the electorate validated through an election.

I think it's a good bill but I don't know how this will work in the case of senators and House of rep that don't have term limits.

We need regional government not power rotation it doesn't encourage development. That is why we ended up with a president that care about cows than human beings. Hausa man doesn't care whether you have knowledge and leadership skills, they just want you to speak Hausa and be Muslim just my opinion don't kill me oh.

Power rotation would actually guarantee we elect credible people

Once it's this zone turn we know it's all about selecting best candidate from that particular zone

Be careful, you may get exactly what you ask for.

In the North, those Fulani would never smell power again until Hausa in the Northwest, Kanuri in the Northeast and Beroni in the Northcentral have their turns.

In the Southeast, Igbo would never smell power until Igala, Onitsha and other minority got power.

In the Southsouth, Ijaw already had their turn. Time for other minorities like Efik, Ibibio etc.

In the West Yoruba will not get power until other Yoruba outside Ogun State got power.

Conclusion: I think this is the work of those who predicted that Igbo would not be President for the next godknowsyears!

Everything I read daily about Nigeria shows that the end is near. And I will be so glad to witness the end of Nigeria.

If this bill is ed, believe me, it is the end of Nigeria. I do not see anything wrong in it, but I am trying to envision a Nigeria under Igbo and Hausa and Fulani will fold their hands. grin Honestly, this is the best strategy to divide Nigeria.

I was against the person who put this bill forward in my previous post, but now, I can see the hand of God in it. Nigeria is going down soon. And it will be the greatest news for me.

Nigerian polithiefcians are only interested in grabbing power and looting the Treasury dry, nothing more.

Shame on all those enabling them and licking their asses. It's why a revolution will never happen in Nigeria.

Some senators who have been their since 1999 would kick against free food that would be removed from their mouth

They would say its anti democratic that it removes power from the people who wants to vote them in

Though it may nor always ensure that the "best" hands wins, it would definitely tackle this sit tight syndrome

This will reduce political tension and brings unity ...

It's stipulated in the bill.

They said two only.. If you served two , you give way for others. You are not the only competent man in the zone...

A welcomed Development.

With due respect, I don't think it will go as you've stated. In the senate you have to be tactical and your bill must care for the interest of others be it minor or major.

Definitely, the Igbo's will confidently rule with honour.other minority will also take the mantle.

I will be shocked if deranged goons don't turn this to Igbo-hate campaign.
They are already pissed off and pained that an Igbo man dared contest for presidency

Good. But the enemies of the unity of Nigeria will not allow it to become law. These enemies of the unity of Nigeria are sometimes ironically called the "unity beggers".

Lol!

If this was the case, El-rufai could not have been governor after Ramalan Yero and Kaduna could not have enjoyed development like it did.

Minority tribes in the South will have an opportunity to rule.

Only those who think of themselves as elites will fight it.
