The member representing Ohafia South State constituency of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Kalu Mbah Nwoke has said the recently launched Geometric Power Project by the state government is capable of benefitting his constituency.

The project officially unveiled recently by Vice President, Kashim Shettima is said to have the capacity to power nine local governments in Aba and its environs.

Speaking with ABN TV on Friday, the Abia Assembly member said lack of power supply has remained a paramount issue in major parts of his constituency.

ABN TV reports that Ohafia has been without a power supply in the past three years.

All efforts to have Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) reconnect the power has proven abortive as the company insists on payment of N2bn it claims is being owed by the community.

Hon. Nwoke told our correspondent that he is hopeful that Ohafia though not in the original nine local governments to be connected to Geometric Power source, it is hoped that the remaining megawatt of electricity will be directed to Ohafia.

Every residential area wants to hurriedly access 24hrs power, If only people know the cost implication of having power supply increase suddenly 5x, they will retink and approach it gradually.

With irregular supply if u are using abiut 6k monthly, it will jump to over 20k suddenly with 247 lights before u know how to adjust. Especially in rural residents with old technology electronics and equipments.

dgitrader:

That's what people don't understand, 247 lights will kill those on estimated billing faster than sniper. Ur neighbourhood transformer will be metered effectively, when the very few with metres are done with in of billings, the reminder of the uned consumption (over 70%) will be equally shared to unmetered s, that present estimated 20k u think is high, will jump to over 50k monthly! And like a rat race, u can't apply for a new Meter because that Ur house is already owing over 250k in outstanding bills in most cases.
I live in an area with almost 20hrs steady light, with 90 percent of us metered, and a good percentage of those metered are byeing the system, leaving those unmetered to make up for the loss. It's hell, wen a 2bedrom flat with anyone barely at home during work hours, getting 35k estimated billing on a monthly bases. Usually it's landlords that will eventually feel the heat when the tenant packs out

Joker of the week!
You want Ohafia to benefit from the power distribution? What do they have to offer?
Mr Honorable please go and offset the N2Bn outstanding arrears to EEDC ASAP!

The power project is strictly for communities with the capacity to pay. Do you think it would be for free?

I don't know about that. We have 3 shops that were demolished. Still waiting for it to be completed to know if previous owners will get their shops back for free.
